P90X: Round 2, Day 1
Chest/Back & Ab Ripper X
I did P90X at the beginning of the year, really just dipping my toe in to see what it was all about and if I was ready. I completed the first 2 months but had to quit to accommodate my annual bout with pneumonia. I suffer from adrenal insufficiency and have the immune system of a wet kitten. Interestingly, that's the reason I began taking my nutrition and health very seriously.
I've lost over 75 lbs in the past two years, once tipping the scales over 250 and now in the best shape I've seen since college with nowhere to go but up, er, down. I used to be a competitive dancer and have become an avid swimmer so when I found P90X with it's focus on proper form, fluid movement, and discipline I knew it was just the thing to take me from "Weight Loss" exercise to "OMFG Train Like An Athlete" exercise.
I turn 33 in 2.5 months. I'm throwing a pool party. I've already bought the bikini and hung it up on the fridge; I'm about 10 lb over "acceptable" in it. My husband is away on business & won't see me until that week. I am out to make some jaws drop.
So Day 1, Chest/Back and Ab Ripper. I rocked on Chest/Back. I can feel the new swim muscle. Abs was harder. I do a lot of Pilates and I always *think* I have strong abs until I do Ab Ripper. :-D So I modify, break the 25 into 2 sets of 10 and get it done that way.
I have yet to find anything that feels as good as a completed P90X workout. :-D

Of all the exercises I do, laps from here to the moon in the pool, high impact bhangra dancing, ankle and wrist weights on the treadmill...
nothing
is a bigger physical challenge than spending the day with my 2 yr old nephew. He's 30 lbs & full of monkeys which makes him a perfect exercise accessory!
Yesterday we played chase, ran all over the house, danced with Curious George, danced with Gene Kelly, played Stand Up/Sit Down (which is great for your thighs & abs if you keep good form & go all the way to the floor), and I lifted him everywhere like a giant free weight. I don't work up better sweat even doing hatha yoga.
I couldn't find "Playing with a 2 Yr Old for 7 hours" in the exercise log so I chose 3 hrs of Circuit Training since I was doing something different every 5 minutes and only sat/rested for 10 minutes at a time every 2 or so hours. It was an active day so I treated myself to a big dose of Fat and Carbs to give me an energy buffer since I haven't been consuming a lot of calories lately & technically am still sick.
I'm really glad I already have an established fitness level or I wouldn't be able to keep up with him. Even his Dad gets tired after a couple hours. Whenever I started to get tired we'd change the game. He rode my back for 15 minutes (he liked it when I did cat stretches and donkey kicks), then I changed to bench pressing him, then we'd run for awhile (using arms to +cardio, jumping to bring in plyometrics). Best workout in town!

Have you heard about
Lebni
?
Lebni is a Middle Eastern spreadable cheese made from kefir. Its the same general consistency and flavor of cream cheese with only 60 cal per 2 tbsp, probiotics, and a delicate lemony tang. Do you miss your Philly? Try lebni. It can be found at most British & Middle Eastern Markets; I've never seen it in a US chain. Some Asian markets will carry it but it's really more of a fertile crescent thing. I put it on *everything*.

I'm losing weight, and I know it's because I'm living on liquids. I'm able to eat solid food again but see no reason why I should completely abandon what's working so well as long as I'm still on the DL and can't exercise. I have another 4 days of antibiotics.
The non-liquids I'm adding are protein heavy, low sugar/fat/carb. Cottage cheese, yogurt, veggies. I figure by the end of the week I'll be back to yakitori.
