I'm down another pound. It's all water weight...but I am happy to see the scales move nonetheless. I've been sticking to the diet...correction - the new way of eating - pretty well... except that I have a weakness for Protein Bars. Well...not exactly protein bars. The true protein bars are high in protein, low in carbs, ~200 calories per serving and taste like crushed skunk. Nasty nasty nasty.

So I tried granola bars (Nature Valley Sweet & Salty Peanut...Yum!) and South Beach Living Bars (Cranberry Almond - Double Yum!!!). The trouble was I turned into the Energizer Bunny when it came to eating these things... I kept going and going and going. I ate 4 of the South beach bars in one day (110 calories a pop). Not many calories, but the sugar content was through the roof. I'm not even going to mention what I did with the Nature Valley Bars. I didn't log the calories for any of these indulgences..because I counteracted them by cycling off the extra calories and not logging the exercise...so I'm theoretically net neutral.

Also for the betterment of my waistline - I threw the whole lot of glorified candy bars away.

I'm not supposed to weigh in till next Sunday (the 18th) but I hopped on the scale this morning just to sneak a peek. Very encouraged by what I saw )I know, Iknow - it's only week 1 so it's all water weight) but still I was pshched to see the drop.

More important - I'm concentrating on getting accustomed to the 5 - 6 small meals a day way of eating... AND exercing 5 - 6 times a week. I'm not so steady on the exercise yet - but apart from a bag pf Pirate Booty that i inhaled on the way home from work this past Wednesday - I stuck to the diet 100%*

I just have to stop snuggling under the blanket when the alarm goes off in the morning and get out of bed pronto to go exercise... that has been a challenge so far. This morning I made it downstairs - but the gravitiaional pull of the couch was stronger than that of the bike... soooo I napped instead of riding.

So it turns out that planning to exercise is actually earier than strapping on the sneakers and exercising. I made charts and metabolic calculators and very impressive plans to get on the bike yesterday. I got home, changed into the workout clothes and did some very impressive stretches (complete with grunts and grimaces)...prepared my after workout protein snack and liter of water to rehydrate from the gallons of sweat I would be losing...turned on the excercise bike and....

Flopped on the couch to watch TV after a phantom charley horse waylaid my plans. Does watching a bike race on TV help get your metabolism up?? Probably not - but I managed to convince myself of that last night.

Congrats to Alejandro Valverde for winning Stage 1 of the Tour of the Basque Country...

sigh...

But the eating went reasonably well (event though I sneaked in an extra piece of string cheese that took my daily count over the limit by 64 Calories...)
