Forgive me if I ramble a bit here. My fiancé, Carolyn and I are in our 10th week of our Medifast plan. I’ve reached the point having lost 35 pounds, that I don’t have any work pants that fit my body anymore. I’ve spent a few minutes going through my closet and taking out and trying all my work pants. TMI, I know but another true story.
I found two pair of pants that I can still get away with wearing, although, I could get vetoed! So with the two I found and a newly acquired pair, I have a total of 3 pair of pants. None of the ones that are to big are going back in the closet.
I normally do an end of year run to Goodwill and this is a good start. It occurred to me that I have a bunch of jeans I can’t wear anymore either. In the donation pile they go! I still have all my shirts to sort through, so, I’m leaving that for tomorrow evening.
I’m planning to drop off all this loot at Goodwill on Saturday and then go inside and have a little shopping spree. I am in dire need of some new to me clothes. My smallest belt is on the second to last hole. Good thing it is reversible.
Weekends are my most challenging time to stay on plan. Carolyn is my hero here, she really enjoys the Medifast pancakes and I normally go for the oatmeal or southwest eggs. We have a pan that makes one perfect pancake from envelope of mix. Sometimes she adds cinnamon and/or ¼ teaspoon of mini chocolate morsels. When that hits the plate a smear of peanut butter, I mean a small smear of peanut butter or a small smear of jam is the perfect breakfast.
The balance of the morning and into the afternoon goes smoothly for me. It’s that stretch between my afternoon meal and Lean and Green that really tempt me to cheat. I have found keeping busy is best and with extra energy being closer to a healthy weight helps here. Carolyn and I are getting married this coming March and keeping busy is my second full time job ;-)
I would have never thought that ten weeks would make so much change in my life:
• Tying my shoes without getting out of breath
• Going for short walks during my work day
• Painful joints, not so much now
• Pants and belts don’t roll over at the waist anymore
• My feet don’t hurt and I shuffle less
• My afternoon energy conservation mode(being sleepy) has gone away
• Much reduced need for my diabetes meds(stay in contact with your doctor here)
• Less mood swings associated with blood sugar issues
If you are starting to see results share them! I was pushing close to 275 pounds when I started with this plan. Both Carolyn and I are determined to finish, do transition and get to maintenance. It’s something we talk about all the time.
Going kind of long here but before I go I need to thank all of you here in FatSecret and especially Carolyn, Andrew and Chris Cayo our Health Coach.

30 November 2012

I have a story to tell, a true story. I was driving to work yesterday and this is something I don’t usually do. My carpool partner had taken the day off. I also was running a little late as I had dropped my daughter off at school.

On my drive I was very hungry. I was thinking to save time I would just run up to the cafeteria and grab a scoop of scrambled eggs and a strip of bacon. That was nearly no carbs and would really not hurt me on the plan.

Earlier that morning before dressing and leaving the house I had weighed myself. Nearly half way to my goal weight! By Monday I could be half way to my goal weight. Boy was I happy with myself.

As it happens I have been reading Dr. A’s Habits of Heath and working the companion guide Living a Longer Healthier Life. The night before my drive to work, reading in bed I had just read a chapter on triggers for unhealthy choice for eating and our reaction to it.

In the lesson, we are to list out triggers and what we do in reaction to the trigger. The companion guide lists some to get you going but I missed this one. I was in a hurry because I was running late and was trying to save time!

I still had a ways to go before I got to work, I had some time to think about what I was planning to do, cheat! Now that is the negative pattern and blaming process that eventually kills the outcome I am looking for.

Thinking back to my moment on the scale earlier focused me on what I really want to accomplish; getting to a healthy and maintainable weight. I stopped my negative thoughts and replaced it with my weigh in that morning. My desire to get healthy overrode my want to rush and do the easy thing.

I know that next time I will make sure to grab a bar or bag of cereal from the plan as I run out the door. Thinking through it a bit more I came to the conclusion that making my plan breakfast of Southwest eggs would not take any longer that running to the cafeteria. So, I did.

Stayed on plan the rest of the day, kept my positive feeling of getting closer to a healthy weight and didn’t have to feel guilty or punish myself with other negative thoughts.

This plan is about what we can do to be healthy, live healthy and happy lives. I’m going to read more about it!
