Day 16: My lowest daily carb total to date. 10.2 carbs on the day. My second lowest calorie total to date. 963 calories. My day was so busy that I rarely thought about food and I don't recall feeling hungry except for just before lunch for a few minutes. I do know that I feel a little sluggish today, but I attribute it more to getting just under 6-hours of sleep, and less to not getting the food intake my body demands, though I'm sure that is a part of it. I know I should eat a little more. 6'7" bodies probably need it. But I'm done eating for today with high hopes for tomorrow.

I got a new fancy scale today with thousands of great reviews online. I tested it with my 5'7" 125 lb. wife of 23-years. (She eats and eats and eats. She's gained 7 pounds since our wedding day in 1995 and three kids. Sigh.) The scale is dialed in. So I stepped on it tonight and got 317.1 lbs. I'm down 17.9 lbs. in 16 days. It's quite the motivation. I also wore a shirt today that did not fit three weeks ago. Similar to the jeans I fit in to the other day that are now wearable. I'm glad I have a few items still tucked in the back of my closet as the khakis I wear are starting to look big on me.

Recent cravings:
Raisin Bran Crunch. Two cups was my late-night habit 3-4 times a week. 90g carbs. 190 calories.
Cook Out - Cook Out Style Hamburger. 34g carbs. 448 calories. My crack.
Chick-Fil-A Waffle Fries (Large) - 56g carbs. 460 calories. I could dip them in barbecue sauce All. Day. Long.

Thankful for a number of delicious alternatives. Some things I am going to try soon:

Avocado Chips/Crisps
Buffalo Chicken Celery Sticks
Cheesy Jalapeno Mushroom Bites
Kale Chips
Pizza Zucchinis
Stuffed Mushrooms

I've enjoyed reading so many of your journals. Thanks for the inspiration, the stories of let downs, the encouragement, the recommendations, and the great examples. It's been fun getting a peak into the world of others on a similar journey.

So I’m down with my back since yesterday. It happens about every 3 to 6 months. It typically takes four or five days or so before I can get up 100% and get active again. I blame my poor posture more than anything. I somehow dragged myself into work yesterday and today but left by 3 PM both days after riding the desk all day.

I miss riding my bike! I’m looking forward to riding the bike trail in Murrells Inlet next week. I’m going to try for 10 miles. Hopefully I can get a day or two in with a six-miler in my neighborhood each day before I do the 10 there. The trail is pretty flat, so it shouldn’t be too hard.

I purchased a sushi making kit on Amazon.com. It came in the mail today and I gave it a go. I believe I screwed it up by putting the cauliflower rice on there while it was too warm. It ended up tasting good, nonetheless. I also used imitation crab and avocado inside the Nori paper. I dipped it in wasabi and low-sodium soy sauce. I bought a wasabi powder and simply added water. It put a tear in my eye and caused a runny nose. Pretty hot stuff! Overall I give my self a B-. Hopefully the next batch will be better.

I am going to weigh in again on Tuesday morning. I feel like I have been pretty stagnant the last few days and maybe need to get a little more hard-core. I have been hovering around 1500 to 1800 calories per day. Almost every site I am going to has recommended 2200 to 2400 for fast weight loss at my height and weight. The carbs are still up there, though, but they are typically around 20 or 30 except for a couple of days. I may have to have a couple of weeks of out right diet misery to get below 300. We will see.

My boss's boss invited me to dinner last night at an incredible German/Austrian restaurant here in town. He is the president of our entire division covering the nation. He's a flat out genius, too. I really enjoy working with someone who inspires, motivates, and energizes, and he is all of that.

So he motivated me into a couple of beers, and an incredibly delicious almond crusted veal schnitzel, potato cakes, sauerkraut, steamed veggies, and European jam. I skipped the bread and dessert. But it heaped on a good 120 carbs or so for one meal. And to top it off I went home and just before bed I grabbed one cup of Kellogg's Raisin Bran Crunch. Forty. Five. Carbs. <gulp!>

So, 35 relatively healthy meals and one night of eating like a raving lunatic. I'm not beating myself up over it. (I was still below 1900 calories!) I'm ready to start over again today like nothing happened and keep chasing a weight that starts with a "2" rather than a "3".

Oh, I wore a brand new pair of jeans to dinner last night. I bought them about a month ago to wear to work on those "jump in with the team and get dirty" days. I could not get them buttoned last month. They were very comfortable last night. Progress, my friends. Progress.

Heading out shortly to bike an 11-mile path. I took a day off to hang out with the wife and kids, but carved that out. I also discovered the pool in our neighborhood is somewhat warmer than I thought it would be already. I'll be adding treading water/swimming into my exercise mix soon. I've got to believe that will burn some cals. And the HOA has an impressive exercise room at the main pool. No more excuses on rainy days. Things are coming together!
