I feel like I'm failing big time. I know I'm not following my diet plan to the letter, but I'm now eating better than I've eaten in years. Despite that, I'm still coming in waaaaaaaay over my calorie count.

I try to be good, you know. Today at break, I ate a muffin instead of a donut. Tonight for dinner, I made pasta instead of downing an entire large pizza. Etc, etc, etc. I'm trying to be more active and I keep falling short.

As with every aspect of my life, I feel like I keep trying and trying and trying and it's never good enough.

I know how you feel. I've been doing that all my life... Trying to stick to my diet, but never really following it to the letter. The problem with that is... you suffer because you feel like you are dieting but not getting the results you expect. Then one day you think "hey, my diet is not going well, so meh, I'll eat that pizza". Soon enough you are back eating as badly as you used to and putting on weight. My recommendation is: choose a diet that you feel like you can follow (and I mean follow 100%) and stick to it. Of course once in a while you will eat something you shouldn't, but you can't let it get you down and you should get back to your diet right the next day. You should also try to find a workout you enjoy. I've tried many things, from Wii Fit to body pump classes and now I am happy going to Curves (a gym only for women! It is really cool and I don't feel embarassed to exercise there). If you do that, you'll lose the weight faster and the sense of accomplish will be so good that you won't really bother that you are not eating that pizza that you like so much. I know you might think that I am being an hypocrit because I have so much weight to lose, but I am saying this as someone that have tried all and everything, but has been feeling so great in the last few weeks by just following my diet, doing my exercise and shedding those extra pounds. I am sure you can do it and feel good about the whole process once you feel like that is what you really want and that the benefits are way better than what you will have to abstain from. I know you know this, because it is all logical, but only when it really sinks in is that you can understand how silly it was and that you should have done it before and stop suffering. :D all the best to you and I hope you get there!

I totally agree with this. It is important to find something you enjoy doing so that you aren't dreading doing it just to do it :) i turned a spare room into a workout room so i could do it at the convenience at home and also invite my best friend over to work out and don't have to worry about any other people watching me. As far as the diet thing. I found writing down what i eat at the point that i eat it helps with calorie counting and keeping up with it as well rather than waiting til the end of the day and trying to remember what you've eaten. Also I don't think you should deprive yourself of any food, just learn in moderation and in some cases as a treat to yourself. It'll get better I've only lost a few pounds but amazingly i can feel a difference and it just motivates me to continue :) Good Luck :)
