Happy hump day!

I'm finally having a different breakfast, in honor of the 28th day of my diet. I'm trying to break the bacon habit. I know all those nitrates can't be good for me, but ohhhhhhhhhhhhh, do I love the stuff! I'm only having 2 strips this morning. lol

This is quite the accomplishment for me. A whole month, and not once did I cheat. I overate my RDI a few times, but nothing passed these lips that wasn't allowed on the atkins diet. I'm dipping my toe into the OWL phase by adding some nuts here and ricotta cheese there. Nothing major yet.

I figured out how to keep my nut servings under control. They do have those 100 calorie packets with almonds. I may give those a try if I can find them again.

Memorial Day is coming up and I'm having some sad anniversaries here. My father passed away a year ago on May 7. He would have been 79 on May 30 of this year. I used to always joke that I couldn't forget his birthday coz he was born on Memorial Day. And then, father's day is coming.

I am really blessed in that I have a step father who came into my life when I was 14. We've had our differences over the years, but I do love that man. But I can remember standing in the card isle at Walmart last year, tears rolling down my cheeks, because I only had one dad to buy a father's day card and gift for that year.

Well, forging ahead here. I'm not going to give in to the hollow feelings that often accompany that sadness. I have long been aware that a lot of my eating was to fill a 'hole' directly related to my father, even before his death. And if I do feel extra hungry, I can always munch on sugar free jello, beef bullion and a little extra protein.

...don't forget the heavy cream. You have so many people who love you. I know its so surreal that you mention father's day because I did not even meet my father until I was 18 and we still diid not have a relationship until a few years ago. For years I would get my mom something on Father's day and Mother's Day and now I send out 2 cards. It's so surreal. I know he is my father, but I have never called him dad or father, for some reason that word just can not escape my lips. I call him by his first name, which he does not mind. It's also crazy because I never used that as an excuse for anything I did. So many people say they could not do this or that because they did not have a father in their lives, I think it made me a stronger person. I also had some amazing role models like my older brother and all my many uncles and my pastor...I did not miss out on a thing. I don't know where all that came from but glad it did. We all must forge ahead. We have things to do. Places to be and folks to see ........2 days :-)

Thanks, Stephanie. A very wise man once said that no one escapes childhood unscathed. I think the thing that has kept me going most is what one of my pastors said about his father. He said God revealed to him that his father loved him very, very much; he just wasn't very good at it. My father went a long way toward healing some of my wounds in the final years of his life. He still never knew how to talk to me. I'm content knowing that he loved me very, very much. He just wasn't very good at it.

Congrat's on not cheating! I'll keep you in my prayers as these hard times come. My Mom passed 12 years ago & I have had to take care of my Dad since. He's 84 & in fair health & Sharp As A Tack! I count myself very lucky. I'm going to check out that Tuscan Meatloaf in your food diary. Question on Stevia is it allowed? Its not listed in the New book.

Yes. Stevia is allowed. I actually buy the 'truvia'. It lists 1 carb per packet. Be careful with that meatloaf. I find it real hard to tell what 1/12th of it actually looks like. I'm going to have to experiment until I get that right. I think I actually ate too much tonight. I'm trying out OWL after a month on induction. I'm not very comfortable with it yet, and I'm actually over the 25 carbs I was shooting for today. Not by much, but enough to make me want to go right back to induction. lol
