There is a simple philosophy I have been following for many years, And it holds very true right up to now. I have put it to the test.

"We don't eat what we like, rather we like what we eat." What that means is we learn to like the foods we choose to eat. How many times have you heard something is an acquired taste. I have modified my eating habits with this philosophy. For example: I used to pour tons of salt and butter on everything. I have learned to enjoy foods for their actual delicate flavors and use salts and butter sparingly even to the point of not using them anymore. I have trained my taste to not like overly sweat things and be satisfied with a smaller portion of those I do eat. Obviously, someone is going to say, 'I've tried to eat such and such a thing for years and I don't care, I still hate it'. Great. Move on. But we still train ourselves to like foods.

How I apply this is by systematically replacing a unhealthy habit or food with a healthy one that I know I can sustain for years. That way I'm not bouncing around from diet to diet. My diet is my daily routine forever. I make a short list, of foods I want to change and I make a short list of alternates that I know I can like or learn to like. I have more than one alternate so as not to get frustrated when I can't find the thing I want as well as provide some variety. A short list is easier to learn than a longer one. I add items as I see fit.

Lastly, I don't get upset with a pound or two increase because I know that the body fluctuates. As long as I have a downward trend over a reasonable time, I am victorious!! I don't record every single thing I do everyday either. I summarize. If I need to pay attention I will do it for a short period. Frankly, I don't want to record everything I eat and do every single day. I want my habits to be natural.

Which brings me to the second Philosophy. Train, Train, Train until it is harder to do it wrong than it is to do it right. We do what is most natural to us. Fire men and Police don't go screaming into a hazardous situation like Rambo. They act with purpose that has been trained vigorously. That's how they are successful. Its when people go off on tangents that they get in trouble and do something stupid. People will give the excuse, Well I just did it differently because...... BLA!!! BLA!!! BLA !! No they didn't, they did what they are used to doing.

Hope this helps someone get motivated in the right direction. But not just motivated, but willing to put it into action. :)

I am Motivated, Activated and Disciplined.
Charlie Mike!!

Cheers.
