smithe2383's Journal, 27 Apr 23

I was badly injured in an accident 1 1/2 weeks ago and have gained almost five pounds since. The combination of not being able to walk (again) and depression eating and drinking are terrible. This is after five knee surgeries where I spent two years not being able to walk (finished in January) and two years of not being able to walk due to neuromyelitus optica paralyzing me three times. I hate my body. I hate myself. I might as well just have my legs amputated at this point. Nothing is ever going to get better.

Ah— just checked your profile. You have access to a pool. Swimming or working out I. A pool is a terrific non- injury producing option and terrific for our mental health..

I am so sorry you are going through this, it sounds truly awful. You will be having huge water gains from swelling; just remember it takes 3500 calories on top of your daily needs to gain 1lb per week. I am sorry you got the short straw on injuries. If there is anything I ever can do to help please reach out. I pray you are able to come through this and out the other side quickly.

I am so sorry for what you are going through. Please try to take this one day at a time … it might help to plan your meals the day before and then just follow the plan so you don’t eat your feelings. I think we have all been in that position … not to diminish what you are going through …don’t give up! Spend some time outside in nature … it can be very healing

Get well first....then focus on your weight. I recently did pool therapy, it can be soothing if it is warm....but you may not be able to transport to a pool. Warm/hot showers can be comforting also. I listen to J Vernon McGee on Facebook. He is a good Bible teacher.....as a college student, years ago, he came to our school and spoke. He taught on the book of Ruth. Ruth had a lot of strikes against her, but she didn't give up.

I’m sorry 😞. Depression is so real. One thing that I’ve heard repeatedly from nutritionists on my health journey this past year and a half, is that weight loss is mostly from diet, not exercise. Exercise is important when you are able but more importantly is trying to eat nutritionally dense fresh whole foods as much as possible. Also, I do think CICO matters no matter which “diet” you choose like low carb, keto, carnivore, Mediterranean, vegan, vegetarian etc. maybe calculate your deficit using FS or some kind of on-line formula. Whatever your maintenance calories are, go 200-300 calories lower. Losing body weight will help the pressure on your knees and other injuries. Prayers!!!!

I’m praying for you. I cant imagine what you’re going through, but I do believe in the power of prayer. I’m so sorry you’re dealing w/this. Get some hand-held weights and do any & all exercises you can while you’re recovering. If you go on YouTube, there are so many exercise videos that you can follow along for free, even without using your legs. Chin up my friend, God’s got this!!!! 💚

try to change your thinking, what you say to yourself, you become, speak truth and life to yourself and you Will get better in everyway. lifting you up in prayer, remember it is a process, not one and done. God bless

You need to care for the body you have and find ways to make it work for you. I too have a body that doesn't work properly with auto-immune issues. I get sad for a bit and then I go to the interwebs and find out what Dr's or Medical Institutions have studies on those issues. It's never quick finding solutions, but I eventually find the information that helps. Plus having hobbies that distract your sadness. To get over my horrific osteopenia diagnosis. I drove out to Bendon Michigan to look for the Dogman, Bigfoot, and bring my ghost gear to see if the Wizard who died there makes contact. Do what you can do and entertain yourself and find healthy foods you enjoy eating, get your macros too. You can live your best life, even though...

I'm sorry that happened to you. What about researching about getting stem cell therapy and if there's grants or something you can use to get that therapy? You can weight train your upper body and that will help build some muscle in your lower body
