Laura, This is just my personal experience... You can get the dog to make you happy. But when I got my dog the focus went to caring for my dog, less time for my health. Don't get me wrong, I love my dog. But I actually walk better without worrying about my dog. I'm the crazy woman who walks faster with the doggy in the carriage. When I go for my long fun excercises on my own, I felt guilty for leaving her at home. If you are looking for a walking companion, maybe another person. I feel more accountable to walk when it's a person. On the days I don't want to walk my dog just gets to go around the block. (That's not enough excercise for me). Have you thought about getting a rolling walker to help with the pain of walking? I actually thought about it at one point, b/c my heel pain was so bad. Either way, best of luck. Baby steps. You can do this...

I do have a rolling walker. I'm changing drs to one that will hopefully put me back on medication for the neuropathy in my feet.
