I'm so the same. I hate to get sprung surprises because when I know I am going to be out I will choose really low Gi foods and smaller portions so that I have a large deficit to cope with unexpected calories. That leaves me with the flexibility to not be in deprivation when I go out. I also try and eat something little just before I leave so I can exercise greater control. Double win :)
