25 April 2014

By the way, I changed my goal weight to 168, from 160, because I reached a set point in my weight, where I was unable to lose any more weight. 168 is my highest maintenance weight, so I've decided to set that as my goal weight, because I feel I've reached my goal :)

From here on out, my goals will be fitness related. I will measure my progress by how fit I am - by my measurements, how much weight I can lift, my endurance, and my fitness abilities.

I plan to do a variety of workouts and activities: walking, hiking, weightlifting, body weight exercises, low-impact cardio, flexibility training, and more - as the opportunities arise. I'm going to have fun being active!

My motivation to workout is to increase my metabolism, build muscle, and generally be more fit (health-wise, not body shape). I know that being sedentary is not good for me, and I feel better - in many ways - when I workout regularly, so they are motivators as well :)

Here's to working out for life!

25 April 2014

I'm happy to say that I worked out every day this week (M-F). I will be taking the weekend off, but that works out well, because I'm more active on the weekends anyway.

Yesterday, I went for a walk around the city again, running errands. It took me 1 hour 40 min, 55 min of which was actual walking. I covered 2 miles, carrying groceries for the last 1/2 mile.

I went at a slower pace, because my husband was with me (he doesn't like to power-walk), and honestly, my body just didn't want to move fast.

I was really sore and was thinking, "I don't have to workout tomorrow. I should take the day off to recover." But I realized that only my legs were sore, so I planned on doing abs and yoga workouts, because my abs weren't sore and my body could really use a good stretch.

So, today, I followed through with my plan and did the two short workouts, a total of 24 min. I'm proud of myself and really feel that I deserve to take the weekend off now, after working out 5 days in a row.

I feel that I'm off to a good start with my active lifestyle and hope to continue it next week.

I hope everyone had a good week. Have a fabulous weekend!

To continue my workout streak, today I did 26 minutes of upper- and lower-body strength training exercises, and used dumbbells for a couple of the exercises. During the short warm-up and cool-down, it felt great to stretch a little. I definitely want to do more stretching. Overall, I felt energized today. And later, when I went for a 3/4 mile walk, I didn't feel worn down from the workout earlier. I'm loving the feeling I get from working out! I look forward to working out, because I get to move and strengthen my body, which is a nice change from all the sitting I do with my career. And I think I'm enjoying exercising more, because I'm doing it for my health this time, not to lose weight. My objective is to get stronger and have more endurance so that I'm in good shape. I'm looking forward to observing my progress as the days go by :)

I started my workout routine yesterday, walking 3.5 miles in 60 minutes. I walked all around the city as fast as I could, running errands, stopping at four different places. It took me 2 hours total, which includes the time I spent inside the different places. It was a beautiful day out! On my way home, I walked 3/4 mile carrying two large, heavy bags of groceries. It was difficult! The walk really wore me out, and my leg muscles - my whole body, really - was sore afterwards, but I felt great doing it and after. I don't think I've ever walked for that long a time or distance (close, but not quite). Today, I don't feel sore, and I'm ready and motivated to tackle my next workout! I think I'll do a DVD workout and go for a short walk (1/2 mile). What workout are you doing - or have done - today?
