Had a nice 5 mile run this morning since I usually run about noon. The weather was nice and cool and there were not too many people on the trails in the morning.

Here's a question to ponder. Just how many different type foods do you eat that is simply based on (100% scale):

-What you've heard is good for you (Commercials, media, celebrities, friends)
-What you've been taught from childhood (Family, traditions, religion, etc.)
-What you've actually researched yourself (nutritional writings such as labels/ingredients, medical journals, scientific journals, etc)

For me, when I first started trying to lose weight, I would say that 50% of the foods I ate were primarily based on what I heard on TV, mainstream media, and what friends told me worked for them. Growing up in the South where most foods are "southern fried everything," I would say that at least 45% of what I ate was traditional foods. Only 5% of what ate I came from actual research.

So now after a couple of years of losing the weight, I would say that at least 5-10% of the foods I eat now are from mainstream media/friend recommendations, 15-25% are traditional, and now since I mostly eat fruit/veggies/legumes/grains, and the great majority of foods I eat other than that now I would usually try to do some research on it first.
Just a thought.
