My weekend was bittersweet. Started off not so hot. The vet called about my kitty and said she wanted to take off some "dead tissue" that we thought was mostly skin. Well, it turned out to be a hell of a lot more than skin. The best thing we could do at that point was to put the kitty down. She went from being 50/50 to being maybe a 10% chance with extensive reconstructive surgery. So that was pretty heart breaking. But I've had my time to cope now and, well, it really was all we could do.

After that I pretty much ran away for the weekend. Went to my parents and then to my boyfriends. Unfortunately my boyfriend and I spent the first night fighting. I may have gotten a little drunk at dinner. I may have been upset about issues that he refuses to deal with. Le sigh.

The rest of the weekend together went fine. We didn't do a whole lot but we did spend time together. I made him go for a walk on Sunday because I felt like a slug. Twelve hours in the car over a weekend is far too much. But I made it and I'm sure it will get easier the next couple times I do it.

Ah, my after vet entry. Much more informative than the last. The kitty is acting like a kitty now! LOL. She was moving around on my lap so much that I could hardly get a picture. Apparently she's almost trying to eat on her own; which is a huge plus. She's also opening one of her eyes part way so that she can see. The other eye is still swollen shut but it is OK under there. She even tried to claw my pant legs as a scratching post. Oh kitty. You so silly. She even had a little meow.

She'll still take a lot of care but she's a fighter. I kind of want to name her Tron. Honestly I think the biggest hassle with her healing is going to get her to rest. Just like any little kid. But they're going to keep her one more night just to get her strength up some more. I'm OK with that. Just fix my kitty!

In diety news, I've been super hungry all week. Probably because I started running again. I just ate lunch (around 400 cals and a lot of fiber) and I'm hungry like I didn't eat anything. I haven't changed my water habits or anything. But I did start having a protein shake at breakfast (with something else too) instead of a flax muffin. Not sure if it's not sustaining me too well or what. I even had part of my afternoon snack already and might finish it right now!

Happy Friday everyone!!!

30 June 2011

Just got back from the vet to check on my stray that I'm quickly becoming overly attached to. I was upset all morning because they called and said that it looked pretty bad. Her internal temperature was real low and she wasn't very responsive. So I was expecting them to tell me that she should be put down or already died.

It did go better than I thought. Her temperature has come up to almost normal. She's really weak from the wounds and everything else. But she's not really malnourished in a starving sort of way. They've been able to give her food and water.

But she's about 50/50 the vet said. So she could just go at any time if she decides to stop trying. She could also heel right up and be a pretty normal cat in a couple of weeks and perfectly normal in a couple of months. So obviously I couldn't say no. 50/50 is a high enough percent for me to keep trying. But I should still prepare for the worst. Anyway, they're keeping her until Saturday and then I'm picking her up to keep... somewhere... until I know what's going on. For an apartment that doesn't allow pets I certainly am starting to accumulate.

So... went for a walk at lunch. Found a kitten that was not walking well, had it's eyes gummed shut, and some sort of infection under it's chin. Took it to the vet all upset and stuff. Called the BF crying (who luckily is awesome and told me to bring it down to him since I can't have pets in my apt). Eck, I'm such a girl.

But, now that I'm actually getting food in me I'm starting to rationalize this into not being the most ridiculous thing ever. Hopefully the cat can stay at the vet's tonight and tomorrow night (I'll have to pay but whatever) and then I can drive it to my parents for the night, pick up all our old cat stuff, and drive it down to Paul's Saturday. It will be OK. Not that I really wanted to get a cat right at this second. Ironically Paul's aging cat died today. Sad but ironic.
