It has been just over a month now on Atkins, and overall I think it is the right approach for me. I had a rough week last week. The scales were not budging, and psychologically, it is tiresome when that happens. It means I have to continually remind myself why I am doing this, without the instant hit of motivation that the downward movement of the scales provides. My oldest daughter moved back home, for now. Our relationship has frequently had a certain level of tension, and try as I might, that does creep in. And, I am having an allergic reaction to something. Not 100% certain, but I believe it is an antibiotic from the meat that I am consuming. Zyrtec is keeping the itching under control, but the welts are ugly. Fortunately there are just a few. But, it does mean being more careful still about what I am eating. I had been shifting more and more to organic for my fruits and veggies. The local CSA just started up. I pick up veggies and 2 dozen eggs from there once a week. Love the treat of seeing what I will be eating this week. :) But I am now exploring what my options are as far as the meat that I eat. The bacon I buy from Trader Joe's has not antibiotics, and it appears that the Empire kosher chicken they sell is also free of antibiotics. But the beef is just USDA certified. Not enough for me. I found some great steaks and pork at the Market Basket yesterday morning, and there is a year round meat CSA a few towns over from us. Free range chickens, sheep, pigs and cows. Organic. But I just missed the most recent sign up window by a few weeks. I will see if there is any other CSA's for meat in the area, and make sure I don't miss the September signup if I don't find anything else. From what I can see, it appears that the CSA will be less expensive, plus local!

Love CSA's. Support the local farms, and get better quality food. Better than any drug the pharmaceutical companies can come up with. :)

Awesome that you're supporting the CSAs! We hit our local farmer's market almost every Saturday and so we don't do a weekly produce box, but it is so nice to really shop seasonally and get things at their peak. In Oregon, strawberries are going out, raspberries are going strong, and blueberries and apricots are just coming in. Snap peas, cukes and zukes are everywhere, tomatoes are nowhere. It's been too humid and rainy for a lot of production just yet; we had the rainiest June on record.

A rainiest month in Oregon must be quite rainy! I love the farmer's market too, but found that 3 hour window that ours is open was too frequently missed. CSA's seem to work better for me than the market, but I will probably supplement my share with a few goodies from the market...especially the berries. Strawberries are just passing here as well, and we are just starting in on the raspberries. Blueberries are starting to be abundant. A real treat for me. :)
