HuMJah's Journal, 28 Mar 10

I went to the grocery store this evening with my extractions in mind, looking for soft sources of protein that were lowish in carbs that would allow me to still sort of balance out my diet. I think canned veggies should be soft enough (carrots & asparagus in particular) to eat easily, and then cottage cheese and the new greek yogurt fad are dairy sources that should be easily eaten. I got stuff for my semi-homemade chicken soup and a chicken pot-pie, too, which should be easy. I've also got an email in to the nutritionist for suggestions; we'll see if she adds anything I didn't think of (I could do just straight broths, but they tend to be a bit salty, and I can do peanut butter, but for the rest of the week, I still have just water to drink, so peanut butter would be a slow go).

Haven't done my wii fit today... didn't get it in yesterday, either, but I did get that walk in with the dogs. Hubby is on the PS3 playing another game at the moment. I may shoo him off if he can't clear this area to get in some time on the fit.

My weight is up, even when I weighed first thing this morning. I'm still convinced that's muscle weight; I've been more active in the last month than I've been since I was in high school, and that's bound to start building muscle, which has more mass. I'm still feeling really good in general, more confident and sexy.

I struggle with insomnia, so I tend to medicate myself to sleep, both with the prescription I have, and with benedryl. I sleep 9-10 hours a night, and then I'm still exhausted the next day. I've been diagnosed with mild sleep apnea, and I sleep with a CPAP machine to help treat it. I'm looking for other ways to soothe and relax myself to sleep (music) so that I can rely less on the meds and maybe actually rest while I'm asleep so I'm not exhausted the next day.

Still, I think I'm on the right track; I'm at a net loss of calories every day, I'm active, I'm making sure to eat the right sorts of things (whole grains, vegetables, etc), and I didn't put the weight on overnight. It won't come off that way.

I agree! Great job. I was going to suggest the greek style yogurt : ). Looks like you've already tried it. It's my favorite thing to eat, and half the time it feels like dessert to me. I sweeten it a little with Stevia, and put either thawed out blueberries, strawberries and mixed berries in it, or like today, cut up fresh strawberries. Yum. Over 30 grams of protein and the only carbs are the complex ones in fruit. I told my husband tonight that it's one of the most versatile foods. Sweeten a little and it's like yogurt, sweeten more with fresh strawberries and it tastes like whipped cream and strawberries to me, or put a spoonful in my bowl of chili and it tastes like sour cream. Try to have a melatonin and the Benedryl for four nights (no sleep meds) and see how you do. I've done that and now I'm working on losing the Benedryl and going back to only the melatonin. Worked before, got all screwed up a few months ago when I first had the flu and slept 15 hours a day for a week, and shortly after, threw my back out pretty badly and stayed in bed for over a week. Really messed up my sleep patterns and I'm just now getting better with it. Sometimes you have to just decide you'll spend a tired and sleepless week or so to get on the right track. It's worth it. I hate that hangover, half drugged feeling from sleep meds. Good luck!

Sounds like you are doing a good job trying to work around your health issues (your extractions) and the food plan.
