Today instead of going to the gym early (which has become routine and I LOVE IT), I agreed to go running with a friend who is doing the Couch to 5K program. He's run/walked a couple of 5Ks recently and has lost a considerable amount of weight but still has yet to be able to run for 20 minutes straight which is his next goal. I agreed to go running with him because... well, he asked me to and he's my friend and the weather might actually hold up today. But here's the thing... I'm not a runner! When I'm at the gym I always choose the elliptical over the treadmill and I never jog outside. I've had knee problems in my adult life partly because of the extra weight I was/am carrying but also because of how badly I treated them as a triple jumper in high school. I'm a little apprehensive but I think I'm in pretty good shape (I can play a 90 minutes soccer game with no problems) so we'll see how it goes!

You can do it! Just take care of those knees. And maybe next year, you'll run that St. Patty's 5K with me? It was such a blast. :-)

I know what you mean. Even when I tell myself that I will get on the treadmill when I get to the gym, I somehow find myself on the elliptical instead. It is so easy to do. Especially with knee problems. Like you I have tortured my knees through sports. I played volleyball and b/c I didn't always like to put on knee pads my knees and floor got cozy from time to time. If you need to ice your knee after the run. It's so sweet and awesome that you are there for your friend. Wish I had a friend that would keep me motivated through my run.

So the run went well. I jogged about 1.25 miles before having to stop and walk a bit. Walked a lap and then got back at it for a total workout of about 35 minutes. But today the outer arch of my right foot is KILLING me. My running stride must be off somehow and the impact of the dirt track probably didn't help things...
