Hello and happy Tuesday FS!

Cloudy, foggy day! A lot of meetings today ... I hope it goes fast!

I was reading an article the other day where it said a person should eat at least 1200 calories a day and not to go under that number. Does anyone have any thoughts? I don't seem to lose unless I take my calorie count way down.

Must get moving! I feel behind and late already.

Have a fabulous day FS!

I would agree with that statement. Even a person at around 5 foot burns more than that amount at their resting metabolic rate. Your body needs fuel in order to function. I would say up your caloric intake and increase your physical activity. This will have lasting effects as opposed to restricting your calories to a low level that you can't realistically maintain long term.

I absolutely agree with that statement. I also agree with Lindsay that it would be very difficult to maintain that type of very-low-calorie diet in the long-term, so it's not a great idea - better to just eat at LEAST 1200 calories and get more active if you're not seeing losses on the scale.

There was a post on FS not to long ago on this subject. The concept may be correct but the number may be wrong. Think about it - how can 1200 be the right number for every woman, at every age, build, activity level, etc.? I'd pay attention to what works for you!

I also agree with the statement. I couldn't survive on much less than that consistently. I tend to have better workouts when I have more calories in my system. The days that I am that low on calories I'm not good in the gym. That doesnt' mean that that will work for you. I'd take into consideration your height and body type. And then look at what your eating. I know that on some days I can have a higher calorie count but if I make sure to eat all healthy foods that day and make sure to eat more protein and less carbs I can still lose on my next weigh in. Maybe play around with different options that will work for you and give them a try. Good luck.
