Anyone out there with some good exercises that I could do? I am 54 years of age and not in good condition. I just had a toe amputation, and cannot stand or walk for any lenght of time as of this week. I have been laying in the bed and doing some leg lifts, etc. and can sit and do arm exercises. I was thinking about water aerobics but cannot get the surgical area wet yet. This has reall been hard on me. Icannot get down on the floor as it is hard for me to get back up yet. any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I am going to start wearing my pedometer again and see how many steps I take over the next few days and try to set a goal each day to get more steps.

I'm not in the medical profession, but you should let your toe recover a bit more. You can work out your arms. Get some small weights and do a few reps of at least 3 reps. Once your toe is better start taking brisk walks and gradually build up from there. Leslie Sansone's Walk Away the Pounds is a good aerobic work out and it's not hard to do. With all exercises you can modify the moves and go at your own pace. My dad has diabetes and I know if I don't take care of myself now, I may end up a diabetic as well. I'm glad to know that you're taking the right steps now to battle diabetes.
