JockoT's Journal, 31 Jan 17

I have been weighing myself and recording the result daily, since last April, and it never ceases to amaze me how much my weight can change on a daily basis. This morning I am up 5 lb from yesterday. Okay, yesterday’s weigh in was on the back of a fasting day and today’s was after a day eating normally, but I doubt the foodstuffs I consumed weighed 5 lb in total. Obviously water retention plays a huge part in it. I did consume a lot of Carbs, in the early part of the day, but it was in the form of Bran Flakes for breakfast and Low GI bread and soup at lunch time, so I wasn’t too worried about it. My daily ablutions have been normal so that doesn’t seem to be a factor. The point I am making is, for people that normally weigh in once a week, then on an odd occasion weigh a second time, don’t be surprised at what you see. It could just be an “up” day.
Fasting again today. I had a multivitamin first thing and I will take a rehydration tablet later in the day. I don’t know why they call them “rehydration” as it is the salts they give you and not the water.
The hungriest I feel, on a fasting day, is just after I wake up. It must be a mental anticipation thing, as I don’t normally feel hungry early doors. In fact, I have gone through a huge part of my life not eating breakfast.
Here’s hoping everyone has a safe and pleasant day. Happy dieting.

I had a 'false low' the other day. It's good to be aware of these odd ups and downs. It takes a while to get used to them, though. I found Heidi's (and your) approach interesting: essentially ignore them if they seem aberrant. This morning I recorded a loss of 100 g over the last few days, which would have left me a bit disappointed if I'd believed the previous loss of 1.3 kg in three days was for real. Hope you have a good day.

Our bodies work in mysterious ways! I do weigh myself every day, but I refuse to be discouraged by the fluctuations that seem to make no sense whatsoever. You are doing so well this past month. Keep up the good work.

This up and down business flummoxes me at every turn so I don't weigh every day. Once a week stress is enough for me! I did do a small fast yesterday and didn't eat until supper but that was because I left my bag of fruit at home . . . !

Could tan ingredient in the rehydration powders cause you to retain fluids? Reason for my thinking is, aren't they for people who have had upset tum and have lost minerals electrolytes and fluids?

The tablets are basically just salt, sugar and a drop of lemon flavouring. I know salt can make you retain fluid. Having said that, I didn't take any yesterday, because I was eating normally. I only take one on my fasting days. The huge daily fluctuations in weight is something I have been observing since I started recording my daily weigh ins. That is the reason I have been logging them on TrendWeight.com. To extract the trend from the spurious "noise".

Gosh Jocko I had a 5 lb up day and went a bit wobbly to say the least. I'm reassured by your comments ...

The rehydration tablets are supposed to be good for hangovers, although I've never tried them for that 🙂

Daily variations are normal. I've found while trying to establish a nearer-to-maintenance regime that I'm seeing them more now. I think while trying to lose the shortage of calories actually keeps your weight line on a more steady trend! I with every day, but the only way to see a real difference, as opposed to a bunch of fluctuations, is over time. Trendweight is undoubtedly great if you're a Fitbit user. Happyscales will do it if you're an Apple user. I found Libra for Android. I just use a spreadsheet myself. Don't EVER panic because you've gained 7 pounds overnight, though. It's not fat, it's water, and it will go off as quickly as it arrived.

Oh geez. It's no wonder you people are so successful. You body hasn't got a chance with all the data you have on it. LOL! It's pretty cool, actually.
