JockoT's Journal, 02 Jan 17

Mrs T started back to work today so I have been on the go since 6. A beautiful cold, clear, frosty morning here. I have been for a walk to Lidl already, but was unable to get Lamb's Liver (which I fancy for dinner this evening), so it will be a drive to Morrisons later, once they open.

Lamb liver sounds good! Our weather is just bizarre right now. From freezing a couple of nights ago, to today's high of 75F!

Cold and crisp here in the south too. Lamb liver - love it!

Liver is one of the healthier meat types and delicious too, only problem is that it doesn't last long (like at all) once the pack is opened so it's something I can only decide to have now and then - hmm does anyone know whether it can be frozen in portions once the pack is opened?

I just eat the whole pack. It's only 360 gms.

Perishing cold here. All the pine trees are shrouded in ice from the freezing fog. Starting to get a bit fed up with fog, to be honest! We love lamb's liver. Have you ever tried it instead of beef in a stroganoff? Works amazingly well.

Normally just lightly fry it. Never tried making a Stroganoff.

Scrumptious is the only word for it. I'm restricting starchy carbs, not fat, so I can have this on my diet. Ingredients for two: 15-20 g butter, an onion cut in quarters and thinly sliced, 200 g mushrooms sliced, 200 g lamb's liver cut into slivers (same length as a little finger, half as thick as your little finger or less) and lightly floured, a dollop of creme fraiche or other cream (Greek yogurt will do at a pinch). Fry the onion and mushrooms in half the butter till cooked. Put aside. Add the rest of the butter to the pan and lightly fry the liver. When about ready, put the onions and mushrooms back in. Stir in the cream and heat through. If you've got lots of calories to spare and are eating starchy carbs, serve with rice or noodles. As I'm not eating rice or noodles, I add more mushrooms. If you give it a try, hope you enjoy it.

I've never seen lambs liver here in Arizona, but I do love calf liver.. fried with onions and simmered until tender.

I have tried beef liver, too, dboza. Not a big fan. LOL! I realize it is really healthy. My husband has probably eaten lamb's liver, as he loves lamb chops. Lamb is hard to come by here in the states. If we see it, it's from New Zealand and quite expensive.

I think Lamb's Liver is just a bit milder. Never tried Pig's Liver but I know that Ox Liver is rather strong.

I used to make livercake for my dog using pigs liver, oats and egg. She went wild for it. I'd sometimes grate carrot into it which she enjoyed. Lamb's liver is definitely milder than the others

Ox liver is pretty grim... But calf's liver is delicious. Not easy to get hold of where I live now, but I'd buy it in preference to lamb's liver if I could. Very mild and a fantastic texture. If you ever see it, give it a go.
