Look how far I’ve come...
Every once in a while, I find myself thinking back to what life was like a year ago (at 339 pounds), and really recognizing how far I’ve come! So here’s one of those entries, to pat myself on the back, and remind me that I’ve come a really long way in such a short time.
1. Sitting in our car – my hubby’s car is a Ford Focus. Last year at this time, when we drove together and had Tim Hortons sitting in the cup holder, my leg would lean against the cup, and it would be so hot I’d have to put some napkins between my leg and the cup. Now? I don’t go anywhere near the cup holder with any part of my body when I’m sitting in the seat! We joke that now that we’re skinnier the car is so much bigger – but it’s all a matter of perspective. Everything seems bigger now!
2. I still can’t believe I’m 255. I don’t think I’m seeing me at that weight. I’ve lost 84 pounds, and ONLY have 56 to go! If I did 84 pounds in 10 months, I can get the 56 done in the next year!
3. Sitting – Firstly, I can cross my legs and it is comfortable – not to mention that I can sit with cross legged, like I would have in elementary school when I was sitting on the gym floor. I can’t quite do that fancy Yoga cross leg sitting pose, but I’m working towards it.
4. Eating high calorie foods – I have enough self control to stop after 1 portion of chips, chocolate bar, cake, cookies, etc. I don’t think I could ever have said that a year ago. Chips have actually gone bad in my house, because at one portion at a time, and only when I want them, it’s not easy to eat a big bag!
5. Working out – so the past month hasn’t been a great testament to my working out because I’ve been sick, however, I can truly say that my perspective on exercise is very different than it used to be. Last year at this time, if I worked until 7pm, it would have been an excuse to grab takeout and then sit on the couch until it was bed time. Now? Well, when that happens, it is not an excuse for not working out – it just means that my workout time is a bit closer to bedtime, and I’m pretty lucky that my body deals well with that – perhaps it’s the shower after that helps out.
It’s all the little things that make a difference, and I’m glad that I can appreciate all the little things that I’ve accomplished along the way.
