Some good news! I was at the my massage therapists office last Thursday. Since I had no issues, and this was just a maintenance visit, I was looking forward to a relaxing massage. After the first 5 minute pleasantries were out of the way, I mentioned, "wouldn't it be nice if my knee problems could go away as easily as you made my neck and back problems go away".. She questioned me a bit more about it, and the next thing I knew, she was working at the tendons and muscles around my knees! So, I am in health care.. RN for 40 years, in the ER department... I know a bit about anatomy.. like muscle turns into tendon just before it attaches to the bones... so why in the sam hill did I not even think about this? Her theory is... as my minor arthritis, ( confirmed by X-ray ) began, the muscle surrounding my patella, sought to limit its movement to prevent it grinding and getting more inflamed, by tightening up... this only caused more pain as I refused to stop moving as it wanted me to do. She massaged the medial aspect of both my knees for about 45 minutes..... and left me with a bruised feeling ( as I always have when she is done with me!! ) but very minimal pain !! That was last Thursday, and I have not taken any anti inflammatories since! I do ice my knees at night, at her suggestion, but thats it!! I have another appointment in two weeks. I can't wait to get back to my walking! Going to go for a short walk this afternoon with my friend!
