This is getting old, I understand the physics of weight loss, and have been at the gym frequently. Sure a lot of the fluctuations are from muscle /water retention. But to gain 10lbs. in 3 weeks don't jive with me. Do I need to change diet??? Any thoughts? ??

How many carbohydrates are you eating? My guess is that your glycogen level went up. Your body requires extra water to process and break down carbs into glucose for your body to use up. My suggestion would be to maybe give a LCHF diet, i've had great success with it. You do minimal calorie counting, the loss is steady and you get rid of water very quickly. If not, stick to your diet and wait it out. There's many reasons why your body could be holding onto water. Your best bet is to measure yourself with a tape measure rather than weigh, the scale loves to lie sometimes.

Thanks for input, I'll give it a shot, I drink half or more of my weight in water daily. Been doing that for years. Recently got over gastritis due to stress, adrenal burnout, bad gut flora. All-in check now, time to flip the script.

I find that weight gained or lost takes time to set in. The disaster diet you had last week may not set in until a week or so later. Eat less than you burn and you will see results. journaling your food will tell you when you've pushed your limits and for how long. The mind forgets what it wants to forget.

It's hard to say. If your goal is to lose fat and gain muscle, you might be doing that. Are your clothes more loose? Are you losing fat/inches? Are you working out hard? Are you eating a lot of protein, whey, creatine? Do you have a scale that tells you body fat? If the 10 pounds is from muscle and water retention and your clothes are more loose, then you are on the right path. Look at your caloric intake!

9 times out of 10, if you're gaining weight, you are simply consuming more than you are expending. Weight out and measure everything. Try not to eat out unless you know exactly how many calories are in what you are eating. Do that for two weeks and hopefully you'll get a better idea about how many calories you need to eat to lose weight.
