Penlan's Journal, 19 Mar 16

Well, that's day one of party over. Went well. They STUFFED themselves till their bellies hurt. I had a portioned controlled meal and let them get on with it. Surprisingly, there was no comment on my 'special' meal. There was also no comment that I am 66 packets of butter smaller than when they last saw me. :) Heck, what's 66b packets of butter anyway.....

We now have a party schedule, had to amalgamate some of the events. It's bizarre and involved a post dinner session with slips of paper and a hat... and we are down to 9 more celebratory feasts.

139 killers over the normal RDI max for the day, but the monthly average is 180 a day under, so it's fine.

Tomorrow's menu is quiche and trifle. I need to make a fatless spongecake to soak up the alcohol, fatless works better than a buttery sponge. See what we have, might end up with ginger wine. Then fruit, pineapple probably as hubby can't eat red fruits, and no jelly or custard, that was only brought in to eek things out in the war? Really? Who knows, I don't want jelly or custard in my trifle. All topped off with lashings and lashings of cream. Main course will be creamy home made quiche with all butter pastry and home grown eggs, bell pepper and spinach, with a salad. No potatoes of course, they can't have potatoes two days in a row! There will be champagne aplenty too, and possibly even chocolates after... nobody will be wanting.

Birthdays are good.

Then I have to get my head round a combined Valentines/Equinox/Debauchery Day menu so any ideas welcome... ;)

Strawberries are the first thing that popped into my head for your menu for Valentine's, Equinox needs fresh green salad with all the works, I have no idea what Debauchery Day even is but Champagne came to mind. I will be waiting to hear what wonderful things you prepared.

Don't worry about your parents not noticing the weight loss. I had a beard for about two years, then shaved it off the day before my twice weekly visit to my Mum. She never noticed. After a three hour visit I had to point it out to her as she saw me off at the door!

Ah, Strawberries in March, lovely as the image is, it's not going to happen. We will find something else though. Debauchery Day? Well, that was just a joke between mother and me while we were planning the party schedule. A sort of add-on to Valentine's ;) and an excuse for her to drink more I think, as Valentine's and Equinox are nice and gentle on their own... We'll probably have fizz rather than Champagne but it works the same. Ah JockoT - mother will make a point of NOT commenting positively about my weight loss, sadly it's not that she doesn't notice. Actually, I mentioned it over supper, and all I had back was 'Darling, you were overweight like that for Years!'. Maintaining the negative image and not supporting the positive is what she does best. It's fine, I'm used to it. Oh yes, I remember now, when my son asked why I had a special casserole dish just for me, my father said it was because I was a big fat pig. It's SO nice to be supported by both my parents...... Bless them.
