Bionici's Journal, 04 Jul 24

Let the 4th and the weekend celebrations begin, plus we have 2 of our younger grandchildren for the next week. We are really looking forward to the fireworks displays around this area tonight. As a combat veteran and citizen of these United States, it is important for me to remember this day of the beginnings of our country. I hope that everyone celebrates the 4th today, has an enjoyable time, and can be together with your loved ones.

As an aside, holidays are always tough on my eating habits. Since it is not the Thanksgiving or Christmas season, hopefully the impact will be less,...for all of us. We will grill ribeye steaks, have homemade chocolate ice cream, and other foods. But, it will not go on for days on end. I'll probably not have any exercise workouts today,...other than lifting the charcoal bag, and flipping the steaks with the grill spatula.

Everyone have a great 4th of July. I look forward to spending the next 10 days with 2 of our grand-daughters. One will be 10 next month and the other is 5. We also have our great-grandson with us today who turned 2 in May.

Enjoy the 4th and be safe in your travels. God is good !!

Mastering being able to eat smaller portions of the things you want to enjoy is so important. Deprivation doesn’t work. This is a lifestyle change not a diet. Next day just continue on as you would normally do. Healthier eating most of the time and less than healthy or less than conducive to achieving or maintaining your goals just once in a while. No guilt required.

MorticiaAddams, we always have really good holiday celebrations. I hope that you and your husband had a really good one, and that his chemo therapy is going smoothly.

TJHenggeler, TJ, it is good to hear from you, and yes we had a really good 4th. Hope that Texas life is going well, and that your 4th was also a great one. Was hoping to be in Texas for a golf tournament in 2 weeks, but life intervened. Be well my friend.

Kenna Morton, that is somewhat of the philosphy I have with regard to holidays, but sometimes love for food overcomes the smaller portions. My wife, who is a lifelong RN and now retired, keeps both of us on track normally, and prepares healthy & delicious meals. Both of us follow the mentality about servings of vegetables & fruits that, "5 is fine, but 9 is divine". No guilt on my part, but maybe frustration of seeing the scales move upward for 3 - 4 days.
