Happy Birthday Sean. I found out I was carb intolerant. LCHF seems to be working after all Atkins worked some... 2o years ago.... but so much more is known about it today. what works best for me is a modified Paleo (no fruit) Good Journey!

Like many others, I do LCHF with IF as well. If you haven't checked out the dietdoctor.com website already suggested by FatGirlJenny, you really should. There is a lot of good information there, including the science of why it works, recipes, interviews with professionals, and testimonials/success stories. If you can get KetoClarity by Jimmy Moore, that's also a good place to start. Google Jimmy Moore. He has several websites and blogs as well. Good luck to you. You did a great thing for yourself by stumbling upon FS and all of us!

Happy birthday Sean! I liked the comment about changing the word "die-t". Dumb word and so derogatory. Super low carb stops cravings, I think that's been the difference for me. Log your food and it also helps a lot.

Sean, Happy Birthday! Learn to *live* it. A birthday is great time to rethink your life what you really want. Learn to *live* a healthy life - whatever that means to you! Lots of great ideas here. Plenty of ways here to challenge yourself to live a healthier life. That is important- live a healthy life. You are young. Make those important changes before it becomes even harder! Believe me.... I know.... and am paying the price in my 50s for the bad habits when I was your age and all "diet" gurus were touting a "low fat" diet. I have found that low carb is better for me. Learn to listen to your body! Good luck and ask for help here or somewhere. It takes time to learn what is best for you.

Sean, it is a sad thing to be fat and unhappy. I went up and down with weight for so many years. You are only 33. I recommend the low carb plan too. I went to the Atkins web site and took the lessons (How the Plan works) I lost 50 lbs and have kept it off for 2 years now. I stumble once in a while, but I always go right back to the plan. The cravings go away after the first week and the weight drops off 1-2 lbs a week with a few plateaus. I log everything here and when I was seriously losing, I kept a little book and logged everything I ate in it and counted the carbs and calories. 20-25 carbs per day and 1200-1500 calories was the combination that worked the best for me.

You got this!

Try intermittent fasting, walking for about 30 minutes- an hour on an empty stomach, and building some muscle. I'd also recommend some low carb/low sugar as sugar is probably your worst enemy right now. Good luck man! You got this!

Happy Birthday!! I have found that if I call it a "diet" I want to eat more, and end up with a gain. I am a diabetic, so have been trying to eat healthy.. I just eat too much! So... I am going in with a lifesyle change attitude. I am striving to make it my new lifestyle. You can't "cheat" on a lifestyle. So you don't have the "I've failed may as well quit", or the " why can't I ever stick to a diet?" What you have left is, this is my life. I'm taking control of food, and not letting food control me. I will eat healthy as much as possible, but if a birthday rolls around and I eat a piece of cake, it's not failure... it's my life! I also want to put exercise in my new lifestyle. So, I will park further away from the exits, not send a grandkid to get that far away item I forgot, go to the park and walk, go to the mall and just walk, etc! Hope it encourages you or someone. We are all in this together!

Another thing, was just reading previous comments, you may also go in and have a tyroid check? May not be what you're eating as much as a health reason.

Hey there! maybe here start here: Don't think of "a diet" not as something that you go on and come off, but rather a sustainable way of eating. Once you've gotten that mindset, just start by logging what you DO eat. I have a very high-level food log that I've created that really just makes you think about what you've eaten and how it makes you feel. This will then give you a blueprint of how to replicate those "good days" on days/weeks you might feel like you've fallen off the wagon. (I am going to send you a private message because it's up on my own progress site that i'm not quite ready to share publicly) Step 3, just cut out the sugar. READ ALL food labels for sugar content. I promise, it's really not that hard. Use liquid stevia instead if you MUST have a sweetener. Do that for a couple of weeks and then build on that foundation. Best of success! I've found the people on this board to be extremely helpful in making strides of my own! and...HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!!!
