blokeonamission's Journal, 17 Jan 16

Hi. My name is Sean.
I am new here.
I am fat and unhappy.
Every time I diet I end up heavier.
I am only 33. How can this happen?
I am running out of ideas and need help.
Today is my birthday and so I will start my new life here.
Right here. Right now.

Honestly if no diets are working you should maybe try controlling portion size :) Or learn to like and accept that this is your body and life isn't about having a "certain" body size.

Yeah, but at 250 lbs now and only 5 foot tall it's no good. I think it will kill me if I don't lose weight. I have tried most things, including portion control and small plates and filling up on nothing and water. Maybe I did it wrong! What portion sizes do you suggest, how do I best do it??

I'm wondering about Atkins. That's supposed to work quick? I didn't try it yet. Is that portion controlled?

I am Low Carb High Fat (LCHF) you will find alot of support for this and Atkins on here. What I did before I started was research different eating plans and decide on what I thought I could sustain for life. I settled on Low Carb. I researched all I could and took advise from many. Some things I liked, some I didn't. I started with 3 meals a day and have evolved into Intermittent Fasting (another thing I learned on here). I was/am a volume eater so for me being able to satisfy that hunger in me was crucial. High fat does that. Don't be afraid to ask questions! HAPPY BIRTHDAY! May this year be the best yet!!!

Try the Slim Healthy Mama food plan it is not just for ladies. It is low carb, but takes a little effort just started a group. Look them up on line. I got my book on Amazon. It will change your eating habits for ever.

Hey thanks everybody! I've just been reading about the bulletproof diet. Anyone know about this? I never heard of it before. I'll also look up Slim Healthy Mama. I joined the keto group on here to learn more too. What a great website this is!

Yeah thanks FatGirlJenny. Unhappiness brought me here. Seems there is a lot of support. I am so happy now, it really has made my birthday go well. And I had no cake! Cake's bad news. I eat a whole cake once I start I can't stop.

Welcome Sean. Happy Birthday! Logging everything here helps you keep an eye on what your real intake is. When I can I'll put my food in ahead of time to see what portion sizes I should eat to stay on track.

Sean, you've made a big step in the right direction by coming here. This is a great place, lots of support and help and really good tools to keep track of calories eaten and expended. Very important to your long term success (NOT gaining weight back) is to make this a permanent way of life. Forget the word "diet". It's a new way of eating and living that you keep on doing. That's how to be successful....wishing you lots of success!

Haha, the whole cake! You sound like me a sugar addict. There is a course for that on the site I shared too. Glad you're feeling a little better! I definitely know where you are coming from!

Bloke, I've done the bulletproof diet before. LCHF is sort of like that. I do implement some of the things I learned from that one, like bulletproof coffee & bulletproof fasting.

First off Happy Birthday. I have found that losing weight is a life journey and must be taken one day at a time. I have had my ups and down over the past four years and have finally broken through my barrier over the last two and a half months and lost 33 pounds. Even though I still have a long way to go, I am staying focusing. Glad you are here on FS, you will find oodles of support. Wishing you all the best, stay strong! You've got this!

Sean, Jmb3450 is right ... My motto is "It's not a Die-it ... it's a Live-It". You are not going ON a diet, that implies sometime you are going to go OFF the diet ... and you are not LOSING pounds, that implies you are going to FIND them again. Instead, change your mindset to a Live-It. Something you will do every day to LIVE and it will be part of your life. You did not gain weight overnight, you put it on ounce by ounce or pound by pound. That is how you will REMOVE the extra pounds (not LOSE them). There is NO goal but to eat healthy, reasonable choices RIGHT NOW. Not the next meal or the next day or the next week. This choice, right now. Then go on to the next one. Habits take a while to establish and habits take a while to break. But first you must adjust your thinking .... YOU are the most wonderful person. Treat yourself well. You have a great, functioning body, an engine that will take you places, and allow you to have love, laughter and yes, even pain. Feed it well. You would not put dirty dish water into your car's fuel tank, right? No, every time you go to the fuel station, you pick the right fuel and fill the tank. WHY let your vehicle be more important that your OWN BODY? No dirty dish water for your body, healthy choices right now in reasonable portions. Yes, for a while you will feel hungry and desperate, but those cravings will pass ... that is why we are here .. to help you get past your drug of choice - food- addiction. Everyone has great tips that worked for them ... try some -- they may work for you too ... and eventually you will discover tricks of your own. Just remember, Sean ... it is not a diet ... it is a live-it.
