Teddee-D's Journal, 11 Apr 24

In the almost 9 years I’ve been on FatSecret, I’ve lost close to 75 pounds in that time. But it’s probably double that that I gained back and lost again, gained and lost again. But it’s only been in the last almost 2 years that I’ve been able to stay under 275 pounds. I don’t know if age has anything to do with it, I just turned 65 in January. My eating habits really haven’t changed much, watching what I eat in the amount of what I eat has changed. We’re growing up in Western New York with an eastern European lineage, there was food of plenty. Every time you went and visit a relative, they asked you if you wanted something to eat they gave you something to eat. Granted my genes are on both sides of the family to have tall, big boned and heavy family members. I’ve been fighting weights since puberty. Back in the day I was known as the husky kid even though we played from sun up to Sun and I didn’t really eat more than anybody else. It’s just might be metabolism or genetics, I’ll just don’t know. but another 25 or 30 pounds I’ll be down to my high school football weight. even though I watch what I eat and how much I eat, I still indulge myself. Especially dark chocolate. I look at it this way if you have a craving for something, eat it. Because if you don’t and you suppress the craving the longer you suppress it, the more you’re going to eat of it when you finally give into it.
as I’ve gotten older, my main exercise has been swimming a mile a day every day, I love to swim and growing up on Great Lakes, I was swimming since I was a toddler. I got my mile and 5 mile merit badge on the same day when I was 12 years old in Boy Scouts. as I got older, the injuries from playing football baseball softball just being a boy caught up with me and the only thing I was able to do exercise wise without pain while swimming. So I really never stopped, but once they put the defibrillator pacemaker in me they told me I couldn’t swim anymore, because of the motion of my arms would possibly cause the lead to wear at the contact points like you’re charging cable does on your cell phone after a while. So since 2015 I haven’t been able to swim. Having a desk job really hasn’t helped matters much. I do try and walk between 3500 to 4500 steps a day. I must be doing something right because the weight is staying off. My Diabetes is under control, in the last six months I’ve lost two Jean sizes. But that also could be from the stress from my wife’s stroke she had in October. She hasn’t been home since then and I’ve been traveling to see her as often as I can wherever she is whether it be Albuquerque, Houston and Amarillo. It’s living here in Northern New Mexico. It’s only 4 Hour Dr. or so to my daughters house, which is in bed compared to the 14 hours to Houston. So basically I’m just gonna keep doing what I’ve been doing. and just letting everybody know find out what works best for you to lose the weight you want to, but also I found out that your body knows when to stop losing weight based on you. I also look at it this way we were meant to be a certain height and a certain weight in our adult years and if it’s genetics, there’s nothing gonna change that. So whatever diet exercise or what you do make sure you’re happy first you have to like yourself for who you are not as the way you think other people see you. Just something I learned from 65 years of living in different parts of this country. I don’t worry about what other people think of my appearance, life is too short to worry about what other people think.
