Yesterday's hike delivered a shocker...

Daisy and I were attacked by a swarm of yellow jackets. One got me - (I am highly allergic.) Fear crept in quick as I recalled my frightening experiences of 1994 and 2000.

Thank God - If it had to happen, it couldn't have happened any better than it did - God was in all the details: I had just walked off the path and was crossing the main entrance road of the park when I was stung. Minutes later a park service employee drove by - I flagged her down for help. She drove me around until she found another worker, who thankfully, chews tobacco. We made a tobacco paste and applied it to the sting-zone, wrapping my arm with toilet paper to keep the paste applied to the wound so it would draw out the toxins. She drove me back to my vehicle where I met my panicked husband - We'd been separated while walking in different areas and I yelled out to him that I'd been stung. He ran to our car with my dog to come back for me. We were minutes from a dear friends house where I was able to get some Benadryl. I was in a lot of pain all day but I did not have to go to the ER.

Just thankful for all my many blessings. Thank God for being in the details and for protecting me.

Gosh girl, you need to stay from that path..both you and your husband has had some nasty goings on there...how is your husbands knee by the way???? Have a good evening and keep that pen that you carry around for that kind of thing..that way you won't panic..and get some relief quicker....take care of you....Bren

Hey Bren -- yeah, you are right. The same park where Jim was injured. LOL It's too pretty to stay away, so we'll just be careful. Jim's knee is lots better - Thank you for asking. It took about 11 weeks, but he force-stretched it a lot and it healed eventually. Yesterday's scare whangdoodled it a bit - cuz he had to run the trail to get to the car. I do need to tote the first-aid pen; but mine has expired; and they're so dang expensive. My plan is to keep meat tenderizer, bandages and benadryl handy at all times. That should do the trick. :D Take care, you -- love ya!

thanks ladies for stopping by -- Great to "see" ya'll. Thanks for your well wishes and kind thoughts. I'm doing great today. No pain at all - felt fine all day. And Paula, my WOE is going super. I've noticed a pattern with my body. Seems I lose a fast-n-furious days prior to TOM; then TOM enters and I put on a couple of # from water-weight. I lose those 'vanity lbs' and I'm back where I was before and then soon I will reach a new all-time low. So, that's where I am right now. Just about to hit a new all-time low - Lord willing, in a few days! :D I'm doing well, though. Just plugging away - one day at a time...and LOVING this lifestyle.

Yvonne, you got that right, girl! That stuff is nasty -- but it works great for insect stings. LOL Hiking a volcano in Costa Rica years ago, I was stung... My Bro-in-law (a paramedic) scurried around at the Main Lodge asking other hikers/tourists if they had any cigarettes. Finally, someone was able to help. He broke the cig open and spit in the tobbacco to make a paste and applied it to my skin. It worked wonders! We were over an hour away from "civilization" where we could get some benadryl - and without that home-remedy, I likely would not have made it.
