Bought a new scale off amazon for $29. I will have to check and see if it is giving the same values as the coin-operated scale I was using before, that is located in a laundromat.

Scales are calibrated differently and you can get a different reading on each one. The flooring also effects a scale. Public scales should be calibrated for accuracy regularly but many aren't. So pick one as your "official" scale and use that to gauge your weight loss. They should all be within a few pounds of each other. The best way to gauge your home scale is to put an object(s) you know the weight of on it (like two hand weights).
