My weight keeps climbing. I have not had a lot of self-control here lately. Eating well has been pretty low on my list of priorities. I don't feel guilty about that, since my mother passing away has been a pretty tough thing to handle, plus my husband and I spent last week in Wisconsin because his father was sick and in the ICU. I am also trying to catch up with school work. So... I don't feel guilty about eating poorly. I just find it interesting that I have gained so much weight so quickly. I used to be frustrated because I wasn't losing any weight even though I supposedly had a calorie deficit. I guess I was working that hard just to maintain my weight, which really sucks.

I cannot stand to feel hungry for a long period of time. It makes me feel very anxious. My problem is not eating when I am hungry though. It is eating when I am not hungry, and then feeling like I have to go hungry later in order to keep my caloric intake down. Keeping a food diary is not that hard, so I guess that is my best option for right now just to try and keep things under control. I guess I am just jealous of all the people who stay thin and seem not to have to pay that much attention to what they are eating. I may be able to do that eventually, but right now it is not a possibility.

If you are like me, you will never be able to eat like your thin friends and stay thin. I have been maintaining at 211 for three months now and am doing everything I did to get to this weight. I know I have to step it up in some way if I want to go lower. Try healthy snacks when you are really feeling hungry . . . nuts, an apple, orange or a hot cup of tea. I find those help me without a lot of damage. I never feel guilty about eating. It's a choice and I made it. I try not to let the unhealthy things happen too often. Anyway, just don't let yourself get hungry to start with . . . small meals, 6 of 7 times a day. It's kind of like pain medication, you take the med before you start to feel the pain, not after it's already there and you don't feel like it's enough. Hugs!!!

Thanks, Johanne. That is a great analogy! I tend to do better when I am working from home, where I can eat several times a day whenever I get hungry. Otherwise, I guess I had better stock the shelves at work with snacks.

Sounds like a plan! :-)

When I feel like eating when I shouldn't, I pour myself a large glass of water with lemon or unsweetened decaf iced tea. That usually makes any cravings subside. If not, then I snack on raw vegetables like carrots or red peppers. Go through your food (at home and at work) and simply THROW AWAY anything that may be a temptation. Good luck!!!!
