So day one of my nuclear stress test is behind me. Didn't sleep very well last night. DH took me to the appointment. Got me all hooked up to the electrodes, inserted the IV and injected me with the fluid. Time for treadmill part doing 2 minute intervals of increased intensity and incline while taking my BP at each interval. More fluid injected, more intervals. Trying to get my heart rate to 142 but couldn't get it up that far (not sure what that was all about), some other fluid injected to "force" my heart rate up. Felt really weird after that and thought I was going to throw up. Another injection to bring the heart rate back down and the nausea subsided. Then off to take more pictures, was kind of like being in an MRI tube for 20 minutes and couldn't move. Damn, don't you know I got an itch on my face that I couldn't scratch!! Figures that would happen. Just glad I didn't have to pee!
So here I am with all this strange fluid in my body, felt out of sorts all day once we got home and slept most of the day. DH made me a great tomato, cucumber, avocado, lime salad with some steak on the grill and some yummy toasted bread that I got at the farmers market this week with goat cheese.
Part II of this test tomorrow morning with more injections of fluid and MRI-like pictures. Should have the results of it all in 2 days. Hope no blockages or images of potential issues. I really don't want to think about having to have any kind of heart surgery but this is how my dad originally found out he had 3 blocked arteries 25 years ago and needed immediate surgery after his brother died suddenly also at age 55 just like my brother did in April. Needless to say, can't wait to get this behind me.

I'm so glad you got through day one of your stress test. Are you good and stressed yet? One down, one more to get through. Although these tests are a nuisance to take, in your case, with your family history of heart disease, this is a potential life-saving procedure. The sooner you know the results, the better you'll feel. I'm sure DH would like to keep you around for a long time and so would we! Take care and tough it out tomorrow and be free to enjoy your weekend!

fingers crossed the results come back good. I think you are doing the best thing you can right now to get it checked out and get the all clear, will you have to do these again in the future or are these just a one time thing??? DH's dinner sounds amazing can I come over please? lol Try and get some sleep tonight, and hopefully tomorrow you won't get an itch ;)

Thanks MSL & Pixi, for sure this could be a life saver for me. Trying to relax and keep the stress level down tonight. I will have to have these annually from here on out. The good news is that as my weight continues to decrease so does the risk factor. I have beat a few of the risk factors such as I don't drink or smoke and I keep my sodium under 2000mg/day and sometimes much lower than that and also keep my cholesterol at <300g/day. So as you can see, I am watching many more stats about my food plan than alot of folks do. For many it is ALL about the scale, not so for me. I do have a good buddy here who suggested I see a nutritionist and I think I may do that once I get thru these test results. Just checked at my doc today and they do have a nutritionist on staff at one of their other offices. Yes Pixi, DH takes directions well in the kitchen. He basically made the cucumber avocado salad I turned you onto with a twist and the steak was yummy on the grill. I had a huge appetite when I got home since I couldn't have any breakfast.

Yikes on the injections-heart-rate dealie...my DH had to do that also last time he had a stress test. It sounded equally awful when he did it. I am so jealous that your DH made that for you! I would probably faint from shock if Cal ever cooked any of "my" food for dinner. Good luck with Day 2 of fun & games at the dr...I am confident your results will be consistent with the amazing changes you've made to your lifestyle the past few years. :)

I think watching those things is a good thing... I love seeing the scale go down but there are so many other reasons I started this journey in the first place - beating the diabetes and heart disease that runs in my family are just a few. I Try to watch my sodium some days it is hard and I do go over but most days I am well under. I am so glad you decided to take care of yourself.

Something tells me that with all your hard work, you'll see great results. Maybe that's why you couldnt get your heart rate up??? Hope today goes well. Can't wait to hear the results, Babs

Weird about the injections....and kind of scary too!

You're doing the absolute best thing, considering your family's history. Hopefully, everything will come out clear, but if not, you've still got the best prognosis by taking these tests proactively. I think I'd feel out of sorts too, with all the fluids, injections, etc. - just medical procedures in general do a number on me too. Hope today's going well for you.
