Take baby steps. Start with using some soup cans as weights if you don't have any. I'd start with arms slowly and make your way to walking or something with legs. I know you like the skiing and being outdoors. Maybe find something like that you enjoy.

March in front of your tv while watching the news. I'm going to start doing that on the days I don't go to the gym.

This is an area of expertise for me. a key element behind exercise is finding someone that you can work with. A similarly motivated friend or you may need a personal trainer. you do need to commit yourself however to doing something you do not like for the potential future rewards.

When I was nearly 250 lbs - I started with a simple walk around the block in my neighborhood. I listened to books on tape via my iPod and soon I was walking miles!

What great advice, I workout with my friend and we keep each other motivated, really works. Hang in there Kmunson you can do this.

Thank you all for your words of encouragement!
I know that a gym is not going to happen. That is not an option right now. I will have to keep trying to find that thing that starts motivating me to do more. I used to go out for walks...now it is too cold and slippery. I used to ski...not enough snow to do that. I tried rollerblading...my feet got so cramped that I don't know about that. I tried jumping rope...that hurt my shoulder that I about dislocated by skiing. That is really the root of trying to get going...the fear of hurting myself or dying because I tried something.

Hmmm - have you ever used an exercise video? You can be in your own home and space while doing simple movements. There are even walking videos - or you could go to YouTube and find free ones.

Hi Kmunson…may I ask a question…Gym is not an option right now.? May I ask why?

HCB thanks for the idea...may have to try a video.
Raidersfan...finances, time constraints and this body are why a gym is NOT going to happen.
I have to find things to do in and around my home (hubby has weight lifting equipment that may have to try in the basement). We live on a hobby farm in Minnesota. 5-6 miles to the nearest gym. I prefer gardening to sports. Hubby is there to support me whatever I decide. He lost 80 lbs in 10 months himself...but he is so much lighter than me that his speed and level is way above what I can do right now. I frustrate him that I cannot do what he can. He has been trying to find something that will get me moving over the last couple years. He has bought cross country skis and roller blades for me. Some people have asked if he is trying to kill me with these things. Riding bike is difficult for even him as we live on gravel roads that are soft and lots of loose gravel. We have a half court concrete basketball court that is at my disposal...hubby even keeps it shoveled off in the winter.
