OK, I don't want to turn into one of those people that's constantly jumping diets... but... I think I might switch to spike diet after this weekend. I say after but I'm sure I'll do a good deal of spiking this weekend as well.

I've done low carb for the past 6 weeks and I've learned a lot about my food intake. I was one of those low fat, calorie restrictive type people. Now I see that fats are just more sources of fuel. I'm finally getting the idea that low carb just isn't going to work for me in the long run. Working in the food industry does not lend itself to this type of diet. Maybe if I was working for Atkins or someone but my company makes sweetened dried fruit. It's pretty much pure candy! But anyway... I agree with the science behind the spike diet. One time (last summer) I got really close to my goal weight and then started gaining again. But while I was losing I had a bit of a spike diet type eating style. It wasn't structured but it would be low cal mostly with a big "party" type day one day. I was also really active. But after months of low cal (when I got to be "more dedicated") I wasn't losing. This is most likely because my metabolism slowed down. The spike diet is designed to keep your metabolism in tip-top shape. Also, I'm intrigued by the science of insulin response differences during the day and glycogen storage. I like cardio in the morning - perfect for 90% of carbs at night.

Another factor in this decision is my boyfriend moving out of state. I'll probably see him only every other week. Two things about this. 1: I don't have to factor him into dinners any longer so they can be small or oddly assembled. 2: When I see him I'd like not to have to say "I can't eat that" or "Baby you know I can't have ice cream." I'm sick of it.

I do however think that Atkins is a fantastic diet/life style change. I also think that it's been a great transition to the spike diet. It's taught me how to add lots of veggies into my meals. It's taught me how easy it can be to cut carbs. And as much as I've increased my intake over the last couple weeks has probably fixed my metabolism quite a bit.

In other news. Interview felt really good yesterday. They want to have an answer early next week (but this has changed every time I talk to someone with the first response being end of June). And the BF has an apartment and will be moving out this friday. Woof.
