So I am curious, the bulk of a low carb diet consists of meat and dairy,no? So if you can't eat those you cannot do it successfully? I am getting very tired of the .25 to .5 lb a week loss and was thinking to change it up but I don't know to what. Sighs.....

Try cutting the dairy-or cutting it to a minimum. I once went on a detox and cutting the dairy I lost 10 pounds from the detox- yes I was eating super clean and healthy but sometimes the symptoms of dairy goes unnoticed. I only started to noticed how dairy effected me after I slowly let it back into my diet after the detox. I can handle cheese but for some reason I cannot have a milkshake- the amount of dairy of ice cream will destroy my digestive system for a few days... but having grass fed butter and cream for cooking and coffee doesn't effect me...

I agree with Panigale. Low carb is meat, fowl, and fish but half your plate should be full of veggies. You can also have limited amounts of low carb fruits, like berries or melons. Dairy should be minimal.

Thanks, thats what I thought. I eat no dairy(severe milk allergy) and my plate is usually all veggies, nuts and a wee bit of grain so it would be a big adjustment. I just need to pull up my big girl pants and find my groove I suppose. Thanks!

Morningstar Farms (freezer section of your grocery store) makes a lot of tofu and soybean based "meat" dishes if you're looking to get more protein in, and don't forget the gluttony of power bars on the market -- many do not have dairy protein. Unfortunately, finding the brands & flavors that don't taste like chalk is a bar-by-bar taste test.

Honestly, I don't know how vegans and/or vegetarians do it. I don't eat primal. I am primal. Hunter gatherer dontcha know. Try to pick my own and kill my own. If I tried high carb diet, I'd balloon. I have respect for you guys... as long as you're note wearing alligator boots or carrying leather handbags, and I appreciate your belief in your ethics. No fish either? I'm not trying to be obtuse, I mean no animal products?

I ate nor wore any animal products for many years. I have been trying bits of chicken and eggs lately but frankly my stomache doesnt digest either very well. I ate at KFC last week and it near killed me lol. I actually usually have no problem hitting my 50 grams of protein with nuts and seeds and whatnot. I rarely eat processed foods, the occassional flaxseed wrap. It's not really an ethical thing for me though. I grew up that way and it just stuck.( child of the sixties) Limits me a lot for diets though. I gained all this weight because of bedrest and medication when I was pregnant for the last couple babies followed by a torn rotator cuff. So I am a little lost in the diet world.

It's okay. The reason you get sick from some chicken and eggs is because you have been eating a certain way (vegan) pretty much your whole life. When you do not eat certain foods for a very long time you lose those digestive enzymes to digest products like meat and eggs. If you wanted to have more eggs etc you have to do it in baby steps a little at a time to build back the digestive enzymes that you are lacking. But It sounds like you are motivated and doing well. Keep it up!

Paningale... Nicholaix post made me think of the digestive enzymes I take along with probiotics. Nich.... There are also protein powders out there without the whey you can use with water. Can you drink almond milk? It's from almonds and not considered dairy.

You ate at where???

if your drinking almond milk, make your own the packaged stuff is the devil. 12 raw almonds (blanched if you have them) 400ml filtered (cold boiled)water, 1/2 tsp vanilla extract 4 drops stevia or 1/2 date. Soak them over night then blitz them and add 200ml water as you go. Better that the crap in a box x

You could also replace grains with lentils/some beans as they are less starchy. Prepare a soup of lentils, carrot, onion, celery, red sweet pepper to have every few days. The water for this soup can be replaced with bone broth/chicken soup etc. Try to soak (12 hours) or even better sprout every grain or bean that you eat as this way, the nutrients can be absorbed much easier. It is also better to soak your seeds and nuts for 12 hours and afterwards dry them at low tempeture in your oven. You could also introduce fermented vegetables(sauerkraut) for probiotics that help your digestion. And KFC and anything similar should be a no-no. Instead, try small porsions of baked/boiled/(no oil prepared) fish/turkey breast etc. You could also check if you have enough acid in your stomach(otherwise you cannot digest properly anything).

Thanks for that almond milk recipe, will have to try that, but without the sweetener and flavoring. I can relate, I haven't had pork in a long time, had that pork sandwich on Sunday, my stomach complained as did 'the rest of the tract. I eat lots of beans and whole grains, I sometimes go for weeks with no meat. Lost 60+ pounds limiting my self to 1200 calories averaged over a week. It wasn't quick but it's a way of eating I can live with. I don't rule out meat but my body doesn't like much of it, low carb simply gives me a constant stomach ache.

One of my kids adores Kentucky Fried Chicken. They have nothing healthy on their menu, seriously, nothing. So I tried a regular "meal". I had intestinal distress to put it elegantly for 2 days. It was salty . Thanks for the almond milk recipe.

I read that some people who cannot tolerate dairy can use whey protein products. Not sure if this would pertain to you - just a thought.

One thing KFC does have that won't kill you are string beans and they're pretty good. If he wants a grease job from KFC, I won't get a drink and get a double side of beans.

Some people use Hemp or Pea protein.

processed foods that seem to be vegan but may not be corn tortillas, canned beans, store bought breads, some cereals; most processed foods are non-vegan even if it says 0 cholesterol they are allowed to add animal products/dairy to it as long as it is under a certain percentage and still report that it has zero cholesterol, but contains animal byproduct etc, my diet is whole natural unprocessed foods; the word unprocessed except for the protiens are fruits, vegetables, dried fruits, whole grains, beans, bean vegetable soups, salads, more protein homemade breads with vital wheat gluten, air popped popcorn with nutritional yeast, soy powders or nonfat soymilk with natural cereals(oatmeal), complimentary proteins, textured vegetable protein added to soups and stews.
