NowIunderstand's Journal, 04 Nov 14

I just read on on Wholefoods site an interesting fact that I had a hard time believing, if not for the seemingly reputable site.

When you eat Beets, if your urine is reddened, it's a probable cause of a disorder in your body metabolising iron! Apparently it happens to 10 to 15% of people.

Wow, I always thought that was completely normal! In fact, my dog also urinated a red tint when I serve him beets.

So, I do have a problem with iron. Very good to know.

If you visit the site you may be interested in seeing how sweet potato is good for you! I googled 'nutritional value of sweet potato' and it brought me directly to the nutritional value page.

Just sharing!

I also thought it's totally normal; just from the intense color! Any info on how to improve iron absorption and metabolising?

Ditto - so if we have the proper iron, no color? I always thought it was the body expelling anything more than it needed... like, when VitC turns it orange. Yams.. mystify me. It's probably one of the few foods that taste good and are good for you.

I know! I have a hard time believing that!. What we need to validate this is someone who eats beets and has no color. I feel a community post is in the making... Fulla, do you want to do the honors??? lol No mention on how to improve metabolizing iron.
