I made my first hot and sour soup. Been roasting a pork shoulder all day to go in it (the house smelled amazing!) and found dried lily flower at the Asian supermarket. 😋

Love it Janus! 😍 Dried lily also goes well in chicken soup with mushroom! It has fruity, flowery aroma and chewy texture 😋

Looks like a lot of work….

Nadia, it wasn’t as complicated as it looks. A fair bit of assembling the ingredients but once you start cooking it is really quick. I had roasted a chicken earlier in the week so had already made the stock. I did my own pork shoulder but you literally just stick that in the oven and leave for 6 hours. Lizzy, yes it was amazing! Steve, I used this recipe: https://thewoksoflife.com/hot-sour-soup/

Just one thing I cant understand yet, in the recipe it mentions pork shoulder but does not state that it should be slow roasted. Was that your own variation? Does the recipe really mean raw pork shoulder or does just not mention that it should be pre-cooked? (or have I missed that)

Hi Steve, I think the recipe intends pre-cooked bought pork shoulder/ham. The way it suggests cooking it for a really short time in the soup doesn’t strike me as a way to actually cook the meat as pork shoulder used that way would be raw/tough at best. I decided just to buy a cut and slow roast it for extra deliciousness (plus it is cheaper)

Thanks JW, I think I will do the same as you when I eventually come to make this.
