I just finished watching a video on Youtube of a speech Jamie Oliver made. I am not really a big fan of celebrity types, but he didn't start out that way. He started out genuinely caring and wanting to change America's obesity by getting to the source of the problem. If anyone is interested in seeing the video it's at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jIwrV5e6fMY
How many of you learned to cook from your parents? I didn't. Everything I know how to cook was self-taught and forced by a need to be able to cook for my children.
In America we are driven by 1. How much it costs, 2. How long it takes, 3. How convenient is it
Think about it. McDonalds would not have a multibillion dollar business if it weren't for those three factors.
Let me ask you a question:
Would you eat your kids school lunch?

I actually watched that show the other day and it was eye-opening. I like his approach to everything. In America, we have a serious problem on our hands. Many people don't even realize that they are overweight, when you look around everyone else looks like you so most often you just feel average.
I didnt' learn how to cook from my mom, but I basically taught myself how to cook, as well. Thank God for shows like Top Chef or Iron Chef - they made me want to cook. I have taught my daughter to cook and we usually take turns cooking every other night (when Im not moving to a new state and living in a hotel waiting to move into my new apartment).
Thanks for sharing.....good food for thought
