Can someone provide me with their impression or experience with Planet Fitness.
There's a new gym opening, and apparently it's to model Planet Fitness.
It's really, really cheap, however, my fear is that being so cheap, it'll be unbearably busy all the time and I'll have to wait to get to the machines, and it'll be a real pain in the butt.
thus, my questions in regards to Planet Fitness.
Anybody?

Sorry, I haven't heard about that gym. While waiting for a machine you could march in place.

Funny! It sounded like it was a vast American chain. I got the impression it was the McDonald's of gyms...(except McD is no longer cheap)

I think it is a pretty large chain here. I looked them up after seeing your entry and saw the map of all the locations. I've never been in or near any. All I can tell ya is that the one nearest me gets pretty good yelp reviews. If it's reasonably priced and you're not locked in to a contract, giving it a shot for a month might be worth it. When I looked at the Planet Fitness site, that was one part that did appeal to me... you could sign up for one month of fairly basic service for $10. If I was a gym person, I'd be tempted to give it a try for a month.

Wow, that is a wonderful option to be able to sign up for one month for $10. The new gym here is $10/month, 1 year contract, debited on your cc. There's an option to cancel providing you pay a $30 fee. I'm not a gym person either, but I'd like to do the threadmill. I feel that unless I start running, I can't really get my heart rate up while walking. And a runner I am not. Maybe I'll try running when I'm skinnier, as I don't think it's necessarily good on the joints. Anyway, not at my age. A treadmill has an incline, which could make you walk but get your heart beating faster.
Last time I did a treadmill last year, I got leg cramping, so that's also weighing on my mind.
Thanks for your input.

Ehhh..I'm leary of those one year contracts. Especially with my mentality. You may very well be different ;-) An alternate thought - if you're considering this just for the treadmill, do you have room for one at home? Here in the US there are a variety of used sports equipment stores. We stopped in one just last week. Rows and rows of treadmills! I often see them on Craigslist too. Or, does this new place have a "try it for 7 days" option? Some new places will let you have a trial membership with no obligation to get people started. I totally agree with your POV on running being hard on the joints. Other body parts aren't fond of it either. Are there any hilly neighborhoods near you? I'm hoping you find something that feels right for you. I know that can often be 90% of the battle!
