NowIunderstand's Journal, 11 Aug 14

Had a cheat day.

All bran breakfast plus milk and banana

1 can Canada dry Ginger Ale.

Then chicken I a box : with fries, coleslaw, sauce and 1/4 leg, and Pepsi. A lot of pepsi.

Man, with that pepsi the thirst was never ending. I could have drank a two litre, easily. What I did notice however, was the salt taste after drinking the stuff. And I did see a video once whereas the narrator was saying that there's an excessive amount of sugar in soft drinks to hide the excessive amount of salt. Ding/Ding/Ding...that's whay it's easy to drink vast amounts of it!!! But yesterday, I actually tasted it moments after having swallowed a few sips. Real Poison.

then I snuck out and had a MacD's ice cream and a cookie...(their
cream is half price. )

It wasn't weakness as it was a day going on the road, and like a vacation day. I was fully in control and am back on my program this morning. No sweat. Just hope it didn't set me back too much.

New week, new day, another chance at making our goals come true. Clean slate!

Next time just drink a diet pepsi. The small difference in taste is not worth the calories.

Diet Pepsi - OMG no! it's against my religion...lol :) I think that stuff is a health hazard. (IMO)

Yep .. soda is definitely thirst inducing more than quenching with me.. was never sure if it was sodium or sugar.

diet pepsi. i don't believe it's good for you either, but when i searched, i couldn't find any science to back that up. i used to crave diet coke and diet rite. nothing would satisfy my thirst. i gave it up for iced coffee and iced tea and i feel much better. good you are right back on track!a

Most places have iced tea if you ask for it. I gave up drinking diet coke, diet rite, diet dr. pepper last January. At restaurants I ask for water.

@gnewfry / I try to heed the warning from Michael Pollan -never eat something that imitates something else.. It just makes sense to me. I'd rather have sugar than an imitation of sugar. It's kind of a spiritual thing...believing that nature knows best what to feed your body than laboratories.

Stevia is a natural sweetener that is made from a plant leaf. It's not a chemical.

@Deb - Perhaps, but soft drink companies don't sweeten with Stevia. Or do they now? Anyway, last time I looked they didn't. I've tried Stevia on it's on as a coffee sweetener, and really, nothing tastes like sugar except sugar. (not to say that sugar is good for you. )

Yeah, but Stevia is just to add to your own tea, coffee, lemonade, like that. I'm sure soft drink companies don't use it, that I know about. I stopped drinking coke and switched to diet coke for several years. Then my dentist said pop was harmful, so I only drank 1 a day. When I found out that soda pop hurts your kidneys, I stopped.

I tried it once, and didn't like the taste in my coffee. However, I wonder from one brand to the next if it tastes the same. Do you know?

Regarding the soda...there's one that I know of. Brand name is Zevia. There's a search area on their website that will tell you where it's available. Thankfully, soda is something I don't crave much so I may not be a good reviewer. That said, the taste seemed fine but it didn't have real strong carbonization IMO. It seemed a little flat to me. The only flavors we've tried are Cream Soda and Cola.

I drink soda once a month, if that. So really, it doesn't matter if it's not diet.

Pretty much the same here. We actually had some pepsi go flat once. I thought that stuff stayed fizzy forEVER. Apparently not ;-(

Whenever I've thrown out soft drink, it's with little regret...compared to other foods. I kind of see it as a blessing in disguise.
