Cbreeze's Journal, 08 Mar 11

I've gone and done it. I've gotten a job. It's supposed to be part-time, but so far it's been full-time during training. It was a bit accidental getting this job. I filled out an application, but really didn't think I'd hear anything. So far, it's been okay, but the hours will always be until 10pm but start either at 8 in the morning or noon. I really only wanted to work part-time during the day so I can be home at night with my husband as well as I am not a night person and usually find myself in bed by 9:30 or 10 at the latest. It's been an adjustment still working at 10. The job itself is super easy--get the passengers into the correct parking lot. Get them on the boat. Untie the boat. Move the ramp back which is stupid heavy so hopefully I'm building some muscles. Sit around while going to the island. Check the bathrooms every once in a while. Get the passengers off the boat/back on the boat and then do everything in reverse.
It's crazy boring. The pay is criminally low. But it gets me out of the house.
In the evening we do a dinner cruise so I am able to eat whatever I want. There's plenty of meat. BBQ ribs, chicken and shrimp with or without sauce so that's nice. But the sides are verboten. Baked beans, cole slaw, seasoned potatoes, squishy white bread rolls and chocolate cake for dessert. So, if I do eat there, the servers look at me like I'm nuts when I just ask for a little chicken and some shrimp and nothing else. My co-workers keep trying to get me to at least taste everything and always pushing the cake. They just don't get it. Mainly because the majority of them are young, thin men who still have many years to enjoy their skinny bodies before beer bellies set in. One of the new guys, who started the same day as me, also works as a personal trainer so he's been really nice to me about the food. He even shared his almonds with me yesterday. The ladies in the ticket office managed to band together and get him hired because he is really easy on the eyes. Our first night out, some girl on the boat gave him her phone number and e-mail and another older woman wouldn't stop taking photos of him. I went over to her and told her that the first five pictures were free, but each additional would cost her a dollar. Hey! They don't pay us but a pittance, a girl's gotta hustle a buck where she can!
Well, I've just realized this journal entry has taken on a life of it's own. I had meant to write about the food that was free for me to eat and how I've resisted so far and what I'm going to do about keeping up my resistance, but that didn't happen so I think I better stop. I have stuff I need to do before I have to go to work like find some food to take with me that doesn't need refrigeration since there isn't any on the boat and it does get quite warm.
Hope everyone is having a great week. I hope to catch up with you all soon!

Congrats on the job! And I like how you are immediately pimping out this personal trainer/co-worker within days on the job. Entrepreneurial spirit!

Yup, I think you and this guy could work out quite a deal where you could split some extra money if he'd do some extra photos, sit at their table (if it's allowed), etc. Your new avatar gave me a laugh this AM...you're all bundled up in a snowy area with snow-capped mountains in the background and your bio reads that you and DH live in "South Florida!!" ROFL!! I think the photo's in Alaska, right? Anyway, gave me a nice laugh! Enjoy the paychecks!!

yay new job! It may be crappy pay and the hours might not be the best but at least you are not sitting at home all day with nothing to do, and you have eye candy...I wish I had eye candy its either yucky old men or disturbingly perverted younger men who are not easy on the eyes.

Congrats on the job, it sounds like it will be easy to give it up if it doesn't work out. Working crazy hours for little or no money? I'm sure you will find something you like better.

Yesterday, the co-worker started giving me tips on how to do a pull-up. I have never done one in my entire life so I set that as my goal to reach by my 43rd birthday. My goal for my 42nd birthday was to fit into a size 6, but I didn't set that goal until mid-January of this year and my birthday is in 16 days so I think I'm going to fall short of the mark by, oh, 3 sizes. The co-worker has been wearing a bulky sweatshirt! How am I supposed to pimp him out if he won't show the goods?!? And it's very warm outside. I know it isn't because he's shy. Yes, the photo is in Alaska and I thought it was pretty funny once I realized the irony. I don't have very many photos of scantily clad South Florida Cbreeze and Mr Cbreeze.

Sarahsmum, I wish I could just leave a job. I'm the type of person who develops loyalty way too easily. I had to move to The Great White North just in order to leave my last job here in Florida! I really don't see it lasting very long. Maybe a few months at the most. My husband and I have a short cruise to the Bahamas this summer and it will be nice to use the extra money to play with.
