NowIunderstand's Journal, 28 Jun 14

I have a question. Actually, I have (2) questions! First being, where can we ask questions, and the second: Foods to be entered in the food journal, is the weight cooked or uncooked. My banana's weight, peeled or unpeeled.

You'd be surprised at the weight the banana peel has compared to the banana, and the gram different of a cooked steak compared to a raw one.

Does anyone know. thanks for any help.

Someone else should be able to tell you where to ask questions. I ask in my journal like you did today.......... I weigh what I eat. banana without peel, cooked meat, some veggies I weigh the raw weight and use that value even tho I cook them. I like using grams or lbs rather than cups. 1/3 cup of cheese on the back of the package weighs 28 grams, but I can cram a lot of cheese into 1/3 cup. And salad from a bag... I can't measure a cup so I use the gram weight. FS usually gives you cooked and uncooked values of foods. I hope this helps you.

I think we've got enough people on this site who can give you a pretty decent answer to questions. And if no one responds, there's always the internet or other diet sites. For bananas, on this site they give sizes. I no longer measure them as I've gotten a pretty good idea of the length without pulling out the tape measure. I count the grapes. Apples, peaches, pears go according to size. Meats, using chicken as an example, they break that down into the parts, breast, thigh, leg, wing, baked, fried, coated, with or without skin. Ground beef. I'm pretty fussy making sure I have the proper percentage of fat as that will also determine the calories. 80% vs 90%. They show cooked or uncooked. I cook mine and when I'm wanting to keep the fat down, I rinse the g.b. after cooking, then season it to prepare it.
