SherrieC's Journal, 01 May 14

Yes I have a confession to make. I DID NOT GO TO THE GYM YESTERDAY !!! I know I suck. Plus, I ate way to much last night.

This funk I am in will pass I know, though I did come to somewhat of a conclusion, or excuse, not sure which. My best friend has not been going to the gym with me lately due to something always coming up (for both of us). I have to get my head back in the game, but I have no motivation to go to the gym right now. Maybe because I still do not have a routine yet, just doing the same thing. However, I did go in effort to get one of the trainers to help me with the weights, and what do you know. The sent all the trainers to other gyms. Now they just hired new people to come in and do the training. My husband let me know last night, so I WILL go in and ask for help.

I have struggled all my life to do things on my own, and I guess I am a follower rather than a leader for the most part, but don't get me wrong, I can lead the hell out of a lot of things too. Well I am off to read everyone's journals and see how you all are doing. Have a blessed day !!!

I have been through three workout buddies now. It always starts the same, "Oh, I want to get in shape and go to the gym with you". A few weeks later they are too sore, or they have other obligations... some people lack commitment and that's okay. But the way I see it, if you're not going to do something about it, then you're not allowed to complain about it. That is in reference to my buddy who always calls herself fat, while eating donuts and watching Maury lol. I believe you are a leader, but you just lead better when you have people following you. I'm the same way, but this time I've had to learn to lead myself, even if the others kept jumping off the wagon. Pick one thing for a set amount of time, like a half hour on the treadmill, elliptical, bike... whatever and do it so many times a week. Every time you do it try to go further in that set amount of time. Beating my own fitness records motivates me big time, I can see myself getting stronger, faster etc. Have a plan and stick to it, before long it will become a habit and you couldn't fail if you tried. Well, maybe if you tried lol. Forgive yourself for yesterday, nothing you can do about it now :-) Once you get a couple good days under your belt you will be in a much better place. Have a wonderful day Sherrie, and thank you for all of your comments on my journals, very much appreciated!!

ok. not going to the gym? That's slowing down your progress. Pure and simple that is what that is doing. BUT you can still have a moderate/slow loss if you reign in the eating. That is also pure and simple. If you can't find your motivation to go to the gym, then recalculate your calories to allow for that and be prepared for a slower rate of loss. however, I would say, that going to the gym helps your body to create the very things you need to feel better, feel happier, feel more motivated. It releases endorphins and various internal chemicals that will help you have an easier time and manage stress better. So you have a choice. manage your eating more aggressively? or hit the gym and work your way out of that funk. Either way, there are ways to control the situation in spite of how you feel.

Don't beat yourself up. I came up with an excuse every day this week not to go the gym too. One thing that got me motivated was attending the group classes that my gym offers. I found I could work them into my schedule and it became habit. Then, all your "gym buddies" kind of expect you to be there to fill your "spot" I also keep finding excuses not to weigh or do journal entries. I am finding it difficult to keep eating right when everyone around me doesn't. A little bite of my sons PB&J won't hurt, or a taste of my husbands late night ice cream or candy bar. Just keep trying is the best you can do. Some days are good and some days are bad. Maybe we can keep each other motivated and on point by "reporting in" every once in a while or reaching to for help if needed. Keep on keeping on.

You are going too hard on yourself. When we don't feel like exercising in one particular day, that's an exception. No reason to even worry about it! :) As long as you have an exercise routine, that's just a drop in the ocean ;)

Cherrie, I really agree with everything from Yolanda, especially the forgive yourself & move on! I excercise regularly nowadays...but way back I didn't. Just getting started is the hardest first step & you have already done that, now it is about staying motivated to keep at it long enough to make it a new fantabulous habit. For me, the hardest part is getting out of bed early so I have time to excercise...you wouldn't believe the excuses I can come up with to stay in bed, but, there are two things that get me up; First is I have to think about & remember how good I feel about myself AFTER I am done and how rewarding it is for me to look at my excercise calendar and say WOW...I did all that, me who when I first started could barely lumber around the block....THAT gets me up, smiling!

Check out the classes! Group exercise with fun music can help get you back in the game:) Good luck. Though being hard on yourself isn't good, it IS awesome that you recognize that you were probably getting bored and not reaping many rewards.

Okay, I hear you all and Thank You for your thoughts. I must say you have just given me my wake up call. I may be on the verge of tears BUT, I get it now. I need to put my big girl panties on and just do it and stop talking about it. You all are great and I really do appreciate everything.

I wouldn't stop talking about it, sometimes our best ideas come from talking about it. But doing it helps too! You'll figure this out.

Thanks Alex

That's what we're all here for...that motivation from each other! We're all fighting the same battles, so it's nice to have people to talk to or to see other people's stories and know you're not alone. One day at a time! We'll get there!

No problem in talking about it! :) Just don't worry about it!

You're not doing it on your own. You're doing it with a friend. She's just not available right now. Think of yourself as the gym placeholder for when she comes back. :) What's your approach. Cardio? Lifting weights? Do you want me to set you up with a simple program? Having something to follow will help you be distracted from doing it alone. I'd be very happy to, and I promise it won't be too much.

You do NOT suck. You hit a bump in the road. The question now is what's the best way to get around that bump and keep moving? Alex is right - keep talking. You'll hear ideas and you'll even say things that reveal thoughts you didn't even know you had! You'll get past this Sherrie. You may just need to find a different route for a while.

I have to also say, you absolutely do not suck! You made some choices that you now know may not have been the best for you. The important thing is recognizing that & getting to back to eating & living healthfully. You can do ti! xoxox

you do not suck! not only that, your journal entry sounds like me all the way through ... I am going to follow you and get my head on straight too ... thanks for kick in the butt!!!!!

You are doing great! I have the same issues. It is so much easier to workout at the gym when you are in a class or with a friend than to do it alone. I can take charge of teams, work, kids etc but trying to get up off the sofa to work out alone....ugh! Hang in there, once you find your nitch it won't seem like such an effort. You are doing great and a little funk is all part of the game!
