KimReed's Journal, 26 Mar 14

I'm not feeling very motivated this week. I don't like how it feels. So far, this is the first time I have felt like saying "This isn't worth it." Right brain, left brain. Blechhhhhhhhhhhhhh - The fact that the scales seems to be in snail mode doesn't help!! I don't have all the wrinkles ironed out of my diet/exercise plan. It seems confusing sometimes. Oh well, tomorrow is a new day!! I'm not ready to quit, just feel discouraged and blah.............

Lack of motivation is not uncommon. But a few minimums in and accomplish them and look at what others are doing. Today's minimums for me is 15 minutes of P90X kempo right before every meal. I'm self employed and work from home so it's easier for me but I've got 30 minutes and 200 calories burned already. I will do another before dinner and while watching American Idol or the Voice which I love thought I don't know when it's on, I do boxing moves every other commercial instead of just sitting there. don't give up.

Chin up sweetie!! Remember - it isn't just about the weight - it is about being the healthiest person you can be. Muscle weighs more than fat - that could be why you aren't seeing the results you want on the scales. But don't you usually feel better after exercising? I know that when I eat healthy food - I feel healthy - it can make a big difference on your mood and emotions. You are strong. You are determined. Remember why you started this journey? Isn't that reason still there? YOU'VE GOT THIS!!!!

Why is your plan confusing to you? Maybe you feel overwhelmed and that is throwing you off being able to understand it. Perhaps you can post some of the questions you have about it to get some clarity from others here. I was on Atkins for a long time, and that was years ago, but maybe I can help you figure it out.

Hang in there you will see the scale moving in the right direction. Yes muscle does weigh more so keep going you can do it

commitment + plan = success (rule of life, not just weightloss)

Well iron out the wrinkles and get moving on the plan, lol! If you are only doing the plan (at half motivation), then that may be why the scale is moving so slowly. Get the book out of the library and reread it. Google some sample menu plans for some ideas. Make sure you are getting your veggies and water in. Make sure you are being active. Many times the scales reflect our effort and we don't really think about it. Go back to the beginning (honeymoon phase) and dig your heals in. You may find those scales will start showing more of your effort. But keep your expectations realistic. And a pound of muscle is equal to a pound of fat. Muscle is more dense and takes up less room (hence why people say it weighs more than fat). The volume is different.

And don't forget the measuring tape! Without the knowledge that inches are being lost I'd feel the same exact way right now. I am pretty much the same weight that I was and the end of February but I've lost about 2 inches from my waist. If you haven't already done so, take your measurements tomorrow morning (write them down) and check them in a few weeks. That can be more motivating than the scale. If you find that you are confused by the food choices and want to send me a message with questions, feel free. You can do this (you know that) and you'll get passed the blah feeling. Emotional Ups and Downs are normal.

I guess we all have those days in this journey.... hang in there, tomorrow will be a better day! just remember how much you have achieved so far, look at the wonderful colour in your progress bar (it is not red anymore!) and remember that this is not going to change in 1 day. It will take some more time, but it will be worth it.

Mama said we'd have days like these. Sometimes we just need to take a deep breath and regroup. And, like Darlene said, the scales are not the only measure of our success.

I am on the same page as you Kim and I know exactly what your talking about. This will soon pass and things will start getting better. Hang in there

It's easy to stay on task when you are getting results. It's when things are stalled that our motivation and strength of will are really tested. If you can get through this temporary period of low motivation, imagine how strong you will feel!

Pick a fitness goal that has nothing to do with your weight! Mine is completing my first unassisted pull-up. I have to have 42 lb assistance on a pull-up machine, but I started with 60 lb! So even when I am disappointed by the scale, I can prove to myself that I"m getting fitter. A fitness goal will give you something else to work towards besides your target weight.

It is worth it, and you're worth it! Hang in there! I haven't had a significant weight drop in a while, but I know I'm losing inches. Some suggested to me to do measurements instead.

You can do it! Stay positive, everything is confusing once in a while. Just take a deep breathe and say I will do this.

Thank you all for the kind words and encouragement. I am not one to reach out and it was wonderful getting such kind and heart felt responses. Despite my foul mood, I managed to get in a 30 minute power walk and 15 minutes of resistance exercise. i thank you all for this, it was your encouragement. You guys mean the world to me!! Yay us!!!!!!

Everyone here is right! We all have plateaus, up days, down days, but it all comes out good in the end. The biggest battle is the mental one you fight with yourself. You get that under control the body will follow. Kuddos for the power walk and resistance training even when you really weren't into it. One day it will be something you just do everyday, like brushing your teeth!

It's difficult to know what to do without a plan,as you know I'm sure. So figure out what you want, where you want to be,etc then take a good honest look at what you want & where you are RIGHT NOW. Next, plan out the steps needed to get from where you are to where you want to be.What MUST you do monthly, weekly, daily to meet your goals? THAT'S YOUR PLAN....now just do it! (as NIKE says) :D

Ride the storm out. It's well worth it. I've been through many tough moments on this journey. Just keep at it and stay positive!!! Even as you feel like crap, know it's temporary and get yourself out of it. :)
