Someone just commented to another person who wasn't motivated to exercise that you don't need to exercise to lose fat. Exercise will elevate your mood only. Is that the kind of support people are looking for on this page? I want to learn and be inspired. There is no easy way out of this.

I have to agree! I want someone to motivate me if I'm having trouble on my own. I don't run or job, but the last few days I've been on the treadmill walking fast for a minute and then jogging for a minute, sure I want to just give up but a minute isn't that long, so I just groan through it. When it is all done and I'm exhuasted, I have to say it gives me such a high that I will be motivated to do it again the next day. This is what we should be hearing/reading on this site and any other where other people are looking to someone else for motivation.

commitment is sometimes one of the hardest struggles for us "large" offenders... we are not here for a few kilos we are in this for the long run. Getting yourself motivated day to day is easy for a few weeks or months, it is virtually impossible to stay motivated all the time, for the rest of your life. ... Getting a heads-up from a peer is sometimes all you need to at least keep your eye on the ball and stick to the grand plan. getting frustrated for not being perfect (skipping gym or binging) is no motivation as well... we need one another in good and bad times, also in those hard times when someone confesses to skip or binge... we do not need someone to tell us it would be better if we did go to the gym or not to binge, we already know that!

To lose weight you have to be at a calorie deficit, in order to get there without exercise you have to basically starve yourself. Not only is it unhealthy...ITS DANGEROUS! People need to remember, gaining fat takes no effort at all, losing it on the other hand, requires a TON of work. Weight loss is about 70% diet and 30% exercise, take away the exercise and you harm your body in a whole long list of ways, no doubt about it! You are absolutely right, that was terrible advice!!!!!!!

You don't "need" exercise to lose fat but it sure helps. Several studies have shown that without exercise you are all but guaranteed to have some of your weight loss come from muscle. Contrast that with a diet/exercise combination where you can actually gain lean body mass while losing fat. Over the long term, this will help with resting metabolism. I could go on and on but count me on the pro-exercise team.

AGREE!!! Some one told me once, you need to make your exercise regime like brushing your teeth. Its just something you do every day. I LOVE to work out. For me it has to be done in the AM so there are no excuses. It only takes 30 days to form a habit. So its not too hard to teach your body to get up earlier. Its the other 23 hours that I have issues with. Damn cupcakes!

I guess the issue is different underlying goals/ priorities. Some people here are likely focused on a gimmick- trying to get external results, but not working a lot on changing the built in thought process issues that contributed to the initial problem. I think you are right- that to really have lasting results and better health, it's going to take hard work. Not everyone on this site is focused on doing things in a safe manner, or necessarily have good/ accurate information to go on. However, YOU can find supportive, reasonably or well informed buddies here if you focus on that and make your expectations clear. I think it's sad that there are often people on here who aren't predominantly interested with losing weight in a healthful way, but don't let that distract you too much- that's more their problem. (It's good to care about others, but you still have to deal with you. Maybe your hard work can convict someone else that they CAN and should make a healthful, long term change! :) ) Good journey to you! :)

I think what the person is trying to say is that your diet is the most contributable factor to weight loss than exercise. Your diet is 80% and exercise is 20%. Exercise will increase your mood and metabolism.

We have read "you can't outrun your fork" And "80% nutrition 20% exercise". We need exercise to tone the flab and to keep our bodies strong. We have to work harder at exercise and nutrition because of all the conveniences we have now compared to what our ancesters had to do just to survive. Imagine your great great great grandma in a modern grocery supermarket or a Walmart!

I do agree Kattay. I love exercising specifically weight training. I am a gym fanatic but your diet is very important. you can be working out hard and not lose or tone because of your diet. I am all for the gym.
