I stumbled onto this site because I am a nurse in the school system where I live. I am what they call a "floater". So this school I am at today I have an autistic student who cannot calculate his carb counting or correction factor. I have told his mom to send in the total carbs for his lunch that she makes. She doesn't. So I have to figure it out. I have tried other sites, but they seem complicated, so I stumbled onto this site and it was perfect and the student didnt lose much time from class/lunch. Sooooo, I need to lose weight also, and started to explore this site. I need to lose 50lbs. I think that is the first time I admitted this to myself in a long time. I have battled with depression my whole life, was diagnosed @ 30 yrs old, and have been on the ups and downs of figuring out what med is best for me. First they kill your libido, and then they help pack on the lbs. But ultimately the food I put in my body is MY choice. I'm knocking on 50s door next year and I want to be healthier. I'm uncomfortable in my regular clothes, and I "EYE" don't like what I am seeing in the mirror. I try to watch what I eat, but I do love carbs. I don't eat after 8pm, and as far as exercise goes, my 10 month old black lab has been the only motivating factor to get off my butt and move. Some of us folks with depression/anxiety, and I got both, thank you mom and dad for that, need the meds, but with that said, black labrador retrievers are great for depression and anxiety. I hope someone can relate to me from my post. I can always use a friend. Thanks for this outlet. PEACE!

I can vouch for the positive effect of lab retrievers!! Sadly my last one passed on last year and I haven't yet taken the step of looking for another, but I can feel that I'm getting ready to. My last sixteen or so years have been filled with puppy walking or homing retired Guide Dogs - my last one was a case of both: we puppy walked her and then took her back at the age of two when she decided guiding was not for her!! Beautiful dogs, as are they all, but lab retrievers hold a special place in my heart. Please feel free to add me as a buddy - check out my profile and see what you think. I won't be offended if you don't want to. :'( (just kidding with the teary face - no pressure!).

Hi Kate11165 - I'm a week younger than you :) I crave carbs too, it's a hard cycle to break but as so many have described here, they have done it, so I'm looking for encouragement too. Welcome !!!

I think dogs are great for motivation. Unfortunately for me my dogs are couch potatoes just like me. It's getting warmer not so we all have to get off the couch and move.
