ShyGuy's Journal, 23 Feb 14

As I said, yesterday, it's Paczki time again. I know they are not good for you, but they are a treat worth getting once a year. By getting my paczki fix, last week, I was able to walk past them, without breaking stride, this week. I know that may not seem like success, but as I wasn't, totally, back on low carb last weekend, and now I am, it's definately a victory; one that I'll take any day of the week. :-) For those that are unfamiliar with paczkies, basically they are Polish pastries, similar to a jelly doughnut, filled with a variety of, delicious, fillings. My favorites are the lemon, cream cheese, Bavarian cream, and blueberry; but the possibilities are endless, and all are scrumptous. It's customary to have them in the weeks leading up to, and on, Fat Tuesday, before Easter. In the Detroit area, the best ones can be found, in the Polish bakeries, in Hamtramck, Michigan; but the local supermarkets have acceptable, and very tasty, pastries as well. Purist will wait for Fat Tuesday, and stand in long lines, for hours, that literally wrap around the block, sometimes in the freezing rain, or cold, just to buy them, by the dozen, at the Polish bakeries. What can I say, they are good, and if they weren't, they wouldn't be a temptation, nor a treat. Everyone has their Achilles' heel, paczkies are one of mine.

Congrats on resisting them this week. It is great when you can take advantage of knowing yourself well enough to develop a plan of action. As for Achilles' heels, I have some many I must be a centipede.

Thanks; had I taken, even, two seconds to peruse the selection of paczkies, some of them would have ended up in my basket.
