WOW! I just realized that today marks 20 pounds lost!!!!!! No wonder I feel so much better!!! I've been focusing on each week or each weigh in without noticing the total amount! This calls for a happy dance and a shopping trip, even if I don't buy anything....just trying on a size from my past will be rewarding!

Has anyone else seen success by watching their sodium? Was down 2.2 pounds today, which is a lot more than I expected! Got my lab results back on my blood work to see if my electrolytes have improved, and the dietary changes have vastly improved the potassium levels and the sodium is where it should be, but the chloride is a bit low, but just barely. The low sodium diet is doing great for losing weight/fat, but it's a tough balance to keep the electrolytes where they need to be when exercising a lot, but a person needs exercise, too! This is the ONLY thing I can do right now to improve my fluid imbalance which is the cause of my loss of hearing and dizziness, so I'm determined to keep on keeping on!

If anyone else has experienced success with improving their fluid imbalance and decreasing fluid retention, PLEASE share it with me. The doctors have prescribed a diuretic (I HATE TAKING MEDICATION) and the low sodium diet, but that's all they have suggested. I'll do whatever it takes. So, please share your stories if you have them. :)

Drinking lots and lots of water, half your body weight in oz, has worked wonders for me. Especially helpful if you add fresh lemon juice. And yay to you for the 20 lbs!

Oh and lower carb intake as well. Carbs make me swell up a lot. If I'm not eating too many carbs, and drinking enough water, I dont have to worry about salt intake.

Thank you all for your support and comments. I am taking the water suggestions to heart. :)

Copied this off the Livestrong website:"Hawthorn is a natural diuretic that appears to have a positive effect on your blood pressure. Doctors prescribe diuretics, or water pills, to treat high blood pressure and several other conditions. Diuretics decrease the volume of fluids flowing through your blood vessels by causing your kidneys to produce more sodium. The sodium is then excreted in your urine, taking with it excess water from your blood. This process reduces stress on your arteries, thereby lowering your blood pressure. Before taking any supplements, always discuss them with your physician." All I can tell you is it gets pretty good reviews on Amazon for doing what you want a diuretic to do.

Thank you, DairyKing, I'll check into that. My blood pressure is usually low (90/60) even when I was eating very unhealthy foods and when I was pregnant, so it must be the exercise and heredity, so as long as the Hawthorn doesn't cause the blood pressure to go too low, that might be worth trying. Thanks so much for sharing that with me!

Time for you to start journaling again. Where are you? How are you doing?

Hi DairyKing! Thanks for checking in! I have continued to log my food and exercise but have been remiss in my journaling because we decided to leave the frozen tundra of Iowa and visit Florida for several days. Between getting the house and dog ready for us to leave and getting everything done at work and visiting a friend in the hospital, there was little time for anything other than logging all the food I've been eating! Hahaha. Since we've been in Florida, there have been other distractions....LIKE WARMTH!!!!!! I've done really, really well with keeping up with the exercise while I've been vacationing. The food intake has been so-so. I've eaten at restaurants a few times, and that's difficult to log when the restaurants don't provide nutritional information, but overall, I think I've done ok. I haven't weighed in a couple weeks, so it will be interesting to see if I've continued my loss through the vacation.....Tuesday morning will be weigh day!!!!!

Have you considered green tea? I used to drink a lot of it then stopped for some odd reason. Recently I've seen snippets in some articles that it's considered a diuretic in some Eastern medicine practices and can sometimes boost metabolism. I got into a bad habit of drinking a hideous amount of coffee during the day. I'm trying to replace a lot of that with green tea. Like you, I don't have BP issues. Also like you, I DO NOT like taking medicines ;-) If it isn't contraindicated by your Dr., might be something to consider. Best of luck to you!

Hahahaha northernmusician! I am not anything like Mr. Shamwow, except that we share a zeal for exuberance! Thank you so much, TRED45. I am glad you find the success I've seen as motivation....I'm just embarrassed to admit that it took a health issue with fluid imbalance to be the impetus I needed to get serious. And littleone56, you'll find so much support and help on this site....you will be very glad you became a part of it!

And Vickie5966, I will give the green tea a try, too. I will look for the decaf because the doctors/dietitians have suggested that caffeinated tea, coffee, etc. can create problems with the ear issues (if it's not one thing, it's another! LOL).
