Gave blood today 🩸 and now I’m ravenous! Pacing around drinking pints of water and trying not to eat everything in the house like the tiger that came to tea 🐅
I know it takes about 650 cals to replace the blood cells but think that is spread over a few days...this hunger must be psychological!

I was especially peckish today, too! It must be the cold weather! I cant give blood since I started bp pills. It’s a really wonderful thing to do - well done!!

Thanks, yes maybe the cold weather too. Will try warmer socks 😀. I lived overseas for years and wasn’t allowed to give blood in case I was a mad cow, so do it now while I can. Was glad to see my iron levels still good despite the diet.

I am sure replacing blood cells would use up a fair bit of energy so I am not surprised you are hungry. And the blood they have taken has removed glucose and ultimately glycogen from your system so energy levels will dip too I suspect. I think that's why you get a biscuit, to give you an energy burst. Not just for being good!

Good point, Anne. I was very well behaved and took my own clementine instead of eating a Club biscuit but maybe that was a mistake. Really felt it in my workout this morning too, had to drop a bit of weight. Interesting to listen to what’s going on in my body!

The body is an incredible machine so you are wise to listen to it! It makes sense that you had to drop weights a bit. Muscles probably a bit depleted. Worth it for the good cause though.
