Holy Cow Batman!! Stepped on the scales early this morning and was shocked at weight gain. I guess all my permissive eating showed up today! I am not going to record it because it is too unbelievable and I am thinking it might be some sort of water retention or something happening. My pants even seemed tight around my waist this morning, so I am hoping it is a temporary thing. I'll give it a day or two and see what happens.

Happy thought for today: We went out this morning to meet up with some friends for Breakfast out. There was lots of story sharing and laughter around the table. Except for the story about how I got my hands caught in a garage door and was “stuck” there until a neighbor came to lift the door and free me. My poor fingernails have never been the same, so I need to put acrylic over them to make them look smooth and keep them from splitting or breaking. I wonder if insurance would pay for getting my nails done??!

Hubby and I stopped at Costco which was practically deserted to get a few things for our New Years Eve party. Going to the movies again tonight with friends.

Everything is still white outside and snow is so deep now that the holographic Santa, Frosty the snowman and the penguins with lights are deep in snow now. Santa and Frosty have snow up to their butts and the baby penguin is in snow almost up to his necktie. Its warmer today so the snow is melting on the driveway and street.

only concern for today is that I have been thinking about how ImLuuvd is doing today. Today would have been Sarah's birthday. I think I'll give her a ring on the phone.

I'm sure a rapid gain is most likely fluid retention.....Know the feeling of the tight pants too! I'm waiting till after the first week of Phase 1 to be certain I've gotten rid of all the excess fluid....before I officially weigh in.....We are semi buried in snow here too - and so far it hasn't been unbearably cold....Couple of months and we can start thinking about gardening again!! Huggs darlin'.....and a happy and successful 2009 to you and yours.......D

Hold the Batmobile Batman! Faithful sidekick Robin is here to karate-kick those villans! BAM! There goes a pound! BOOM! Another inch just fell from the Gotham City rooftip! ZIP! POW! WHAM! See! THE JOKER JUST LOST HIS SMILE! You be back in regular size "tights" in no time. On a serious note - as always saying a prayer for you and yours with regard to Sarah. Take care Friend!

I know all about the holiday weight gain! When you multiply the number of pounds by the 3500 calories it takes to gain an actual pound of fat, you soon realize that what you are seeing on the scale is not a true reflection of your actual weight. So take heart in that. There is definitely bloat, Mr. C, and just the weight of the food left in our digestive tract still working its way south. Get back on track as soon as you can and you will see some nicer numbers real soon. That's my story and I'm sticking to it! That's got to be tough on ImLuuvd... this being Sarah's birthday. My heart goes out to your whole family.

Your snow sounds really beautiful. Don't worry about that gain - evelyn64 gave you the scientific proof that it's temporary! My thoughts are with you, ImLuuvd and your families.

I echo what others have said here. This is no time to panic... we all just have to get back to the good habits. :) Sounds like the snow is beautiful, hope that it is not too overwhelming! You and your family are in my thoughts.

We need to climb some tall building together! I refuse to record until mine is down alot. It has to go down because I gave all my big clothes away.

I'm with ya, I didn't record the aweful ugly gain experienced.. and now it's gone :P. I am so glad you are able to find time to spend with friends... remember the laughter when you get down. Snow.. now I should experience that sometime. I spent 2 years in Salt Lake when I was a very rebellious teenager, I remember the snow. It's beautiful when fresh, sitting atop the tree branches, ice cycles from the rooftops, now how does the icecycles look with Christmas lights? Here we only have fake icecycles from the roof in the form of strings... Enjoy.

weight was down some today from yesterdays "SHOCKER" moment. I know there is no way I gained that much weight in one day... maybe an accumulation of bad days catching up with me but since the scale did move downward by over a pound today I am sure it will come off before weigh in time. Im going to try my best even though we are hosting a New Years Eve Part here.

That story about your hands getting caught in the garage door sounds traumatic. I'm glad you survived that one. Frost/Nixon was quite good at the movies, very human and it did justice to Nixon. I think it good practice to record one's weight no matter what it is, but we all know what works best for our own psyches. :-)

I can't speak for others. I can just speak from my own experience - what little bit I have. Those times during which I have been off track with my eating have lead to weight gain that appeared three - even four days after the actual straying from the plan. What's dangerous is that first day or two when one "cheats" and does NOT gain. The delay in extra weight is misleading because it becomes easy to think, "Hey, I can eat a little extra here or there and not gain." Then four days later - - - LOOK OUT! Just continue to do the best you can. Okay? Oh! We want to hear all about the New Years Eve Party! I do - anyway! ENJOY!

No worries, Janelle. I'm sure the scale will be more forgiving in a few days. Are your fingers okay? Are you talking about something in the past or something that happened recently? Ouch!

CobraFan it is true that as we get older we don't lose weight as easily as we did when we were younger. A lot of the reason is due to muscle loss and there are other factors as well. I happen to be hypothyroid so I really know that for me... losing one pound a week is really good for me. If I can lose one pound a week I am happy. I have 19 weeks before my birthday and 21 lbs to reach my goal. (the first goal I have established).. I will see what happens when i reach 135 lbs and then maybe give myself some time to maintain and try for another 5 lb loss . 21 lbs in 19 weeks would be "doable" but difficult for me. If I can just lose steady every week without gaining I will be happy...but I don't want any more "stalls" for over a week. My main goal is to have a loss in weight every week. Also... as we older women get more exercise and build back more muscle we will start burning calories better. Haven't you already noticed how much more you are capable of now? I even notice how my hubby can go out and shovel snow and not get winded or red faced anymore... we are improving. You have done fantastic on exercise so you probably notice a difference in what you are capable of now, compared to prior to being as active. We can do this, it might take us a little more time, just like you said, but we can do it. Thanks everyone for being here for me. veggie yuk We are just today starting to lose our snow, actually its gone except for the big drifts and piles where snow was shoveled. It started raining today and that washed most of it away. Now we are expecting a freeze tonight and tomorrow so I hope we dont' have ICE on the roads. Are you heading for AZ soon?? I thought I saw something about going there?? or was it wishful thinking? I want to go there too!! WE should all meet there when its warm and good swimming weather. Happy New year darlin'
